well it was raining...but that certainly looked like a tear to me also
Kale Mustang
After having watched the OP in HQ, I love how the song is much more pensive (with a bit of hope) in contrast to the visuals. Also the use of a very muted color palette (though it's extremely bright and cheerful at the end), helps with the moodiness.

Can't wait to buy the actual single when it comes out.

Also, the shot with Wrath, I think it was an actual tear, as none of the rain effects seemed to make it look like anyone was crying.

My Reaction:
Woaahhhhhhhhhhh hfkghfkdsghfdk thats so cooollll o.o
Yes. That was my thought-process in detail.

This is my favourite OP from the last few, by far, tied with the first.

Thanks for the screencaps, by the way, I didn't notice the homunculi + Kimblee in the red fiery clip of doom, or tearsome Wrath. C:

And at teary!Wrath, either thats a very sparkley raindrop with pinpoint precision (to, you know, fall directly at the crease of his eye) or its a tear. I'm saying the latter, seeing as it looks a lot like Riza's with its shiny-ness. It could be showing that allthough he is Wrath, the Homunculus, he is still originally human and may still have Human emotions, like when he sort-of-not-really oppened up to Riza about how he chose his own wife. Very human.
I just can't understand why he'd cry in the first place, its not like anyone has almost died or gone blind now, is it?

Wow. I really don't know what it is about this OP, but I like it. And then I don't.

I don't like how angsty it is at some points (with all of the tears).
But it's NOT completely angst, it gives off this very hopeful feeling at the end, with Ed and Winry.
But then that's not completely hopeful, it's pretty melancholy.

So this whole thing is bittersweet. Which is what the ending of FMA will probably be like.

BONES clearly loves the Al's body by the Doors scenes. He's been in 4/5 openings now.

At first I was pissed that the opening got the whole optimistic, move forward tone of the manga wrong, but now that I look at it...the manga isn't entirely optimistic, it's very somber sometimes, so who knows?

...this is still better than anything the old FMA did.

Favorite OP's: 3, 1, 4/5, 2.
Favorite ED's: 1, 4, 3, 5, 2.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that my favorite part of the OP is when Trisha comes in. I love how they actually include her in these OP/ED's. I recall that the only time she was in the first FMA's OP, she was fainting.
ShadowCat17
My favorite OPs: 3, 4, 5, 1, 2. Tough call between 3 and 4, but I pick OP3 because of the lyrics.
Broken Chouchou
@Doxywings - That could be it, as just to signify that he actually was a regular human once, unlike the other homunculi. But I can't see Wrath, as a character, crying. It's only to symbolise that, then. You can speculate whether he had human emotions, but he never really showed any.

By the by, fav Openings:

1
5
2 (because of the ridicilous, upbeat catchiness)
... tie between 3 and 4

May I say, I LOVE THIS OPENING!!!

I want to point out that I've been reading the FMA manga as it comes out in America. So I just finished the 22nd volume. This opening did not really spoil anything for me! From the opening alone, I can't really guess what is going to happen to each individual character, or who they will be up against. The only spoiler that I saw was that Scar apparently fights Wrath? I honestly have no idea, haha! So coming from someone who hasn't been keeping up with the Japanese releases of the FMA chapters, I just want to say I don't find the opening to be a major spoiler like some of the other openings were.

As for how I'll rank these openings, I honestly have no idea which ones I like best. I feel that each opening fits the mood for the episodes it opened. So yeah, that's my opinion, haha!
MsLinn
The music start good. Really good. And continues good. I love how the second line drifts out...Lovely.
(WTF-ing like everyone else about Winry's Truth grinning like she wants to eat me...)
Didn't understand until I read the comments that the people on fire were the humuncoli. Intersting style. But...Ed? eh? He looks in pain...
More people passing by. AL! Don't sigh!! It's not good to sigh! Why are you sighing!!??....please dont die...*totally not overreacting*
Ed's Truth wants to eat me, too...
Badass people are badass.
And Mustang....defentely not a spoiler...But it was really neat. It's not often we get to see Roy with such a pained expression. (Am I saying Roy in pain is neat?!)
(lol, when Trisha bends down I'm always expecting the singer to sing "casanova~~".)
*Dies and will never recover from how cute Ed is smiling in his sleep.* (I just established that I can not recover from death...yey, me.)
Winry again...I'm not an avid EdWin-fan, but she can stay there if she like, as long as she don't do anything strange. >.>

(I also like the little detail that Winry's teardrop were very realistically shaped.)

And since everyone else and their dogs are doing it, here's my list from best to least best OP (only the MUSIC):
...Ok, I tried, but they are all extremly good, in my opinion. I seriously can't rank them D: *sigh* I'll try.
Again first. Because. It is awesome. I love the a cappella-begining, the "yameteyo!", the very fast singing, the drums! Everything!!
Then Golden Time Lover (I love the weird beat and especially the singer's voice, it's very different from what I usually listen to. Like the verses best.), tied with Period (I like the peaceful begining that speeds up, it's awesome, love the bridge before the second chorus and the whole last minute is GOLDEN), Rain (I love the first 7 sec and how it goes up a bit in the chorus, love the singer's voice) and Hologram (love the fast pace and the sound of the singer and the lyrics (since I can't understand what they're saying). Actually, I LOVE the sound of the singer!!!)
(<-- written like that cause I didn't understand what you meant with the numbers. The best song first, or what? *is tired*)
Brotherhood have given me a big bunch of my favorite songs. The endings impressed me a little less, but they blew me away with every single OP.
(Hehe, like Broken Chouchou, I had the same thing with Holgram and Period. 'Meh' the first time(s) before you realise how amazing they are.)

@Murdoc
Ah, that's good to know! Then we don't need to worry about our fellow non-mangareaders and those who haven't caught up!

(Why can't I keep it short and simple?! mad.gif )
Vagrant
If there's ever been a time in the story for some rock, this lengthy action-packed, decisive end-of-story, villain's master plan, stories and characters colliding, epic finale...Is that time.
It is not time for tears in the rain, crying on a cliff and lots of looking moody in the wind or a hood.

Hell, just use some of the music from episode 50 and you'd have been sorted.
Vlyse
Seeing as how the OP is very subtle in foreshadowing, it seems to add further confirmation to the speculation that Hohenheim will assist in (by sacrificing himself, most likely) getting back Al's body. I just don't think it's a coincidence we zoom in his eyes, and not Armor!Al in the OP to get to the scenes with Al's body.
deet-tastic
^that...is a very good observation.

And very true.
It obviously symbolizes something.
Chiyo
I do apologise if this has been pointed out, and I don't think it symbolises anything in particular it is just an observation.

Let me first take you back to the first series and the 2nd Op "Ready Steady Go". Crucially toward the end of the credits where Winry holds out her hand. Now if we look again at Op 5 "Rain" with subtitles for the lyrics, do we see a mirror...or am I going slightly mad? Winry holding out her hand with an umbrella, and Trisha holding her hand out and the lyrics mentioning an umbrella.
allykatty1
Chiyo - Yep, I thought the same thing! biggrin.gif I wouldn't be surprised if it was done on purpose, much like the shot of Ed and Al on the train tracks in "Rewrite" seemed to be reflected in the end of "Uso."

Anyways, I MADE THIS

it looks much bigger and prettier on my computer. sad.gif

Nice! I love that bit.

OP 5 has definitely grown on me, I love that it's more melancholic than the previous ones.
The only bad thing about it is it gives off a feeling that this is REALLY the end. mellow.gif

Did you save that panorama at a very high quality, deet-tastic? Because Photobucket reduces the dimensions of uploaded images when the file size is too big.
Bag of Magic Food
Hey, I didn't see this mentioned before, and so although I feel really dumb for not knowing, can anyone identify this character for me?

Seriously, I totally don't remember ever seeing him before!
Or is he going to pop in for just the last few episodes?
Vlyse
He's from Mustang's Ishval squadron or whatever.

Hah, thanks. I wonder why they threw such a minor character into that group, though. Maybe they're going to do one last reminder of how the Ishval War ended before the finale. Or maybe they just wanted to throw people for a loop with the resemblance to Archer.

I also wonder if it means anything that he's not in uniform like the rest of the soldiers in that panorama. (Or Rebecca might be out of uniform too, but I'm not sure, it's a little hard to see.) Maybe they meet again in a less formal situation.

Mmm, dunno on which episode you are, but he was supporting Mustang during the upheaval in Central

He was also responsible for the bombing of the train the furher was on.
Bag of Magic Food
Hm, I guess he just doesn't have a memorable face then, and blends right in. Or the anime's been cutting his scenes... We're really supposed to remember that guy?

Wow. For a long time, "Lilium" from Elfen Lied was my favorite anime opening song.

"Rain" may have just replaced it.

Yes it is melancholy, but holy hell, so much power and emotion in the song and video! The clips could not have been more perfect (albeit spolierific) and fantastically beautiful. I loved all the cameos. Wrath's shedding of a tear made me think just how human he still is, even in homunculus form. The flame animation of Father and the others was incredible. Winry standing alone on the cliff felt profound, Truth's grin was significantly creepy, and Mustang showed real emotion in his face instead of the usual smirk or scowls in the openings.

I especially loved how the ending became a bit brighter and lighter, with the last shot of Ed and Al's home.

All in all, this is a great portrayal for the ending of Fullmetal Alchemist.
