No, she doesn't quite fit the role if you ask me. Plus, by the time this movie gets made, Sandra will be too old IMHO. The only role that I'm passionate about is I want Keanu Reeves as Mustang. Make fun of me if you will, but you know that if you think about it that he would fit the part.
Izumi is in her late 30s, right? Sandra bullock is only 40 something. I'm sure the makeup of hollywood could take some age off of her face. Plus, I think Sandra looks just like Izumi. But that's just me.

You know, with the right makeup they probably could make her look a LOT like Izumi. However, based on her roles in the past, I would hesitate to say that she could pull off the part. BUT then again if a few years ago you would have told me that Heath Ledger would be playing the Joker, I would have said the same thing. If I were directing (MY GOAL BTW) I'd definitely let her audition, but I doubt very much that she could pull it off.

I think it would be better if they used new actors. I think ( if done right ) this could be a very BIG movie, maybe even more
than one movie! This is the kind of thing that could MAKE actors. Much better than some of the junk they make now! They would have to be careful who they picked for the director though. If they picked the wrong one, they would have another Speed Racer!!

I think she's a good actress, actually.

I didn't say she was a bad actress, but some actors/actresses are incapable of playing certain parts. For example, as hard as he tries, I don't think that Nicholas Cage could EVER play a humorous role well.

Hey, nice meet ya Elemdai! Are you in the LA area? If so, we could all meet up.

I think we both have a VERY solid idea of where we want to go and are planning it as a trilogy right now (still outlining, but that is the toughest, longest part... once we're ready, the actual script will be quick). While we are very manga-based, I know the fans in us wouldn't mind being able to honor a few of the anime elements as well (I'm already having visions of putting in stuff that only hardcore fans would notice, like maybe playing "Rewrite" at super-super-low volume in a restaurant or bar scene somewhere, LOL).
And of course Arakawa's "Stray Dog" liquor bottles.

Email me! allykatty1@hotmail.com

Although now that they are making a new anime likely more based on the manga (which I always kind of hoped was inevitable), even if we never get a movie going, I am happy that the manga story is finally being told (which was a large part of our purpose in making a feature script based on it in the first place).

My basic outline would be Ed and Al's story taking up two movies and then an Ishbal prequel with Roy as the main character. Like I said, basic. Not to sound rude, but I don't want to give away too much to people that I technically don't know when I don't have any headway myself yet. I'm sure you understand

Hm? A live-action FMA movie? Sounds interesting... but I wonder, if ever Hollywood does decide to buy film rights, would the Japanese companies even allow it?
I'd be personally alright with the entire thing... unless, of course... -looks back at fake news and shudders- I don't want THAT to happen...

Personally I'd be THRILLED if they did a live-action movie adaptation of FMA. That's so cool that you're working on a screenplay! Good luck!!
I know many of you think that Hollywood should "keep their greedy hands off FMA", but let's be fair here. There ARE other studios that could do a brilliant job of it...for example, Walden Media. As far as I know they've never brought a cartoon/anime to the screen, but I DO know that they've done a good job with book adaptations. All their productions are really good-quality. Just look at Charlotte's Web, Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, Narnia, City of Ember and The Water Horse...just to name a few.

(And I know that sometimes they change things from how they are in the books, but overall they do a good job capturing the spirit of the original source. And when it comes to moviemaking, in a way, that's more important than keeping all the details straight.)
I can see everything in my head already, lol. The music is so beautiful and epic, the production design is great and the cinematography looks AMAZING. I'm seeing some really cool visuals here. (Of course, Ed's shortness issues are less cartoonish and over-the-top than they are in the manga/anime, but they're still pretty funny.)

BTW, I think
Dakota Fanning would make a nice Winry. What do you think? (She played the girl in Charlotte's Web.)

~ Calling Edward Cosplayers In Nyc!, Student film needs help ~
Student Fma Film Project Needs Cosplayers!, Calling Edward and other Cosplayers In New York City!
Hey guys, I'm a student at the New York Film Academy, and it's getting closer and closer to the end of my year and for my Thesis project, I want to do a fanwork about Ed being stuck in modern NYC.
This would be taking place towards the end of the ANIME series, so I'm looking for an older-teens/young-twenties MALE. I'm not sexist, but I want this to be as realistic as possible.
Filming most likely won't take place until this summer. I can't pay, but food will be provided daily and you'll be guaranteed a copy of the finished product.
It'd be much preferred if applicants had some acting experience, but it's not necessary.
Also, in case it isn't clear, I really would like applicants to have their OWN costume (automail optional)
If there are ANY Edward cosplayers in the 5 boroughs that are interested, let me know via PM. Questions can be left in this thread and I'll answer them ASAP.
EDIT: Changing my idea A LOT. Still need an Ed. Read my post a few posts down.

@elemdai - I'm in NYC but can't fill your Ed roll. I'm doing a Master in Communication and think you have a great idea. If you need anyone to help you out as crew [pre-prod, prod, or post-prod or all], I would be willing to help you just for the experience.

@mazam - Cool, I'll keep you in mind. As of right now I'm just working on the script and trying to get interested actors, but I'm always open to people wanting to help out. Why don't you send me a PM with your contact information and I'll keep in touch as details emerge.

elemdai - Good luck with your FMA film project.

Have you seen the short live action film that a director made and posted on you tube? He used two young boys to play Edward and Alphonse. It's pretty good.

I've always thought that it would be cool to do something like that...
Good Luck!

I should add that anyone that wants to be part of the shoot should PM me with contact info. I may have need for extras and I haven't decided what other members of the series I may include into the script. Right now, Envy is a top contender.
ETA: Feb. 3, 2009
Ok! Totally new plan! This one still requires an Ed, but I need a lot more help! Instead of a new story, I want to put together a fake trailer for a live-action FMA (the first part of what would be a trilogy that mixes elements from the anime and manga). This means I'll need:
Ed
Al
Mustang
Lust
Gluttony
Envy
Cornello
Rose
Scar
Possibly Father
I'll also need help with Ed's automail and Al's armor along with costumes, props, locations, etc. Again, anyone with acting experience and their own cosplay materials, PLEASE let me know. However, if you aren't at least in the tri-state area (preferably NYC), it won't help me much. Everyone that lends even a little bit of help will get a copy of the DVD and food every day of shooting.
If anyone has significant experience with computer animation (i.e. Maya, 3DS Max, Lightwave, etc.), I'll DEFINITELY need your help with the alchemy effects.
Time is of the essence. PLEASE pm me if you can help in any way!
Edit: If any cosplayers are going to be at NYCC, please PM me and maybe we can meet up and discuss possibilities.
