The worst was definately Winry's as a kid.

The English voice actor for Maes Hughes is Sonny Straight. His previous credits include Krillin DBZ, The Doctor in Yu Yu Hakusho, Mr. Imazato in Spiral, and Lupin in the Lupin the III movies.

Krillin's my favorite DBZ character, and though I've only seen a bit of the American dub I'm having a tough time picturing him as Hughes. (Scott McNeil would make a good Hughes. <3)

I don't know how it was before but I actually like the voices and the beggining using "Ready Set Go." Not to mention the pictures durring the theme it dosn't bug me that much that they recycled some of the pics. It's good the way it is though it's a given that the Japanese version was most likely better.

TheVileOne: Wow. Did I miss something? People complained that bad about the dub...? I thought that most of them defended their opinions pretty well...

Izumimom: And about the whole Krillin's VA thing... Er... well... I don't think that I would want to hear Scott McNeil talking about his wife 24/7... (Not that I'm saying that Krillin is better... O_O) But whatever...

Regardless, I plan to buy the FMA Boxset(s) when they come out along with the pretty PS2 Video games! =^^=

I can't imagine Krillin's (Eng.) voice as Hughes's voice, BUT, for some reason, I can almost imagine Lupin's voice being Hughes's voice. I dunno why, same VA, but, well yea... we'll see I guess...

One thing about voice actors is that they're trained to sound like different people in different roles. Even so, I'm having a very hard time trying to imagine what Hughes will sound like. X_x

It's weird, but I find myself looking forward to the dub episodes. They are getting better each time.

Now for everyone who's complaining about the dub to the point where it's turned into pointless whining, please think about what you're saying. Funimation opened the series to a wider audience, doing their best to stay as close to the original as possible. And while there are faults, has anyone tried to imagine what this dub would be like is say Nelvana or Funimation got the rights? I have.

If 4Kids got the rights:
-Everyone would have cheap voice actors who cast multiple roles while sounding nothing like their roles and having robot-like voices.
-All the blood and gore would be edited out.
-The script would be full of corny puns(*cough*Pokemon*cough*), and entire conversations would be cut out and re-arranged.
-Theme songs? They would just play some random tune while flashing random screen-shots really quickly.(*cough*Yu-Gi-Oh*cough*)
-All the background music would be redone.
-Cornello would be just some random bad guy who's brainwashing people with his "sorcerer's stone" because he wants to rule the world. Because he's evil.
-Rose would catch a cold during her re-appearance.
-Trisha wouldn't really be dead. Just asleep.
-...And Ed will be searching for some magic medecin to wake her up.
-Al never existed. The guy in the armor would be just someone who likes to follow Ed around. He would naturally have a low voice, and we would never see his face... just because.
-Scar? Who's Scar?
-All the "sins" would have names like... Lina. And George. And Eric. And Sara...


If Nelvana got the rights:
-Everything mentioned above...
-There would be no alchemy. Just magic with pretty circles. (*cough*Cardcaptors*cough*)
-Winry would be on her own quest... to find her parents who disappeared somewhere on THEIR quest for... uh... the sorcerer's stone?
-Izumi would be renamed... "Amy" Or just called "EezOOmy"
-...Armstrong would be drawn in an undershirt.
-Why DOES Ed have a metal arm? Because it's cool!


Note: Take no offense. I'm just trying to be funny and make a point at the same time. ^^; FMA is dubbed surprisingly well thus far by Funimation. If this were 5 years ago, the above would be not only possible, but probable.

Well you obviously missed the thread title in which they actually call it "butchering" FMA. And yes people do complain that bad when they say stupid crap like "its been butchered" or "FMA is ruined!"

ed's voice would be fine for him, when we get to the eps where he's 16. for the parts of the series they are at now he's too old sounding...

as for everyone else in the series the only voice that real just doesn't fit for me so far is roy. in fact i really like the eng al voice, it fits him perfectly. *looks around, awaiting a sub-only lynch mob* sorry guys i dislike dubs as much as the next guy but i honestly do like the al voice, though i still prefer to watch my FMA in sub form.

I find the dubs to be fairly satisfactory now. Ed still does not sound like the original Ed, but who can help it, really? I don't like how Ed sounded the same when he was younger (before the human transmutation). Lack of continuity, anyone?

But, by the by, the dub is tolerable, but not more than tolerable. We'll just have to see how it progresses.

but so far, i think all the voices are pretty good. i absolutely ADORE alphonse's voice!

rose's voice really bug me i dont know but but yea, thats my 3 1/2 cents

i completly take back what i said about the dub. i officially give up on trying to like it, screw it i have my dubs anyway. after watching ep 5 just now, to me at least, it's like the guy who did roy has never seen/heard the jp FMA. in certain parts the voice would change from ok to creepy, deranged, or arch-villiany. in the part where he tells riza (yes i'm stickin with the jp trans spellings) that he has the situation taken care of i honestly was expecting him to do a 360 in his chair and be stroking a white cat in his lap whilst doing the MWUAHAHAHA thing. and in the final scene when he leans forward to tell ed that its his own choice whether to take the exam or not, with the combination of the facial expression and the voice acting i got the horrible child molester vibe off of roy.... no thanks, i'll stick the subs and raws thank you very much

honestly i don't think that even the ed x roy fans would agree with that. its seems the ed x roy pairing is more based on mutual respect love, not "hey kid i got candy in my car" love

u guys scare me. since i've never seen the japanese verion i'm pretty content with the vioces. truthfully i expected something else from mustang's vioce but as the show went on i liked how it sounded. i'm dreamy over vic viove for ed. i seriosly die when i heart. ( ya i love vic in D-N-angel too.) i kinda think that ed and greeds vioces should swithch but i've only heard greed say like 2 words so i can't really judge it.
Al's vioce is very cute, and i love Hughes voice, like when he's takin bout his daughter he gets all.....well u know.

I have watched the series so far in English and just recently (not knowing when the new episodes would air on Adult Swim) I had a friend begin downloading me the original Japanese versions of the episodes from 27 and onward (and I downloaded Episode 51 myself, having already read the summaries, so it didn't spoil anything really).

I love the English version, as I saw it first, but I am absolutely in love with the Japanese version now as well. I am like "whoa!".

I love it. I like both. I especially like the fact that they actually sound like kids in the Japanese version, when they have the flash backs.

I haven't seen enough in Japanese to be annoyed, but I really like both so I feel kinda indifferent otherwise. It's one of the only series I have seen in English and Japanese and preferred Japanese (which is out of like... 4 or 5). Other than Gravitation... which I dislike one Japanese voice and on English voice and I hate the speed of the subtitles.

There really is nothing wrong with the English voices.

Personally, I like the dubbed version. However, just remember that this is only my opinion. There is no definite answer as to which is better. I hope everyone can keep this in mind.

I really don't see anything wrong with the dub...well besides the harshness of Roy's voice at times. But even he can be great. I do think his voice was much better in the subs though. Riza....eh...I don't really like her voice in the dub. It's ok but it's nothing compared to the Japanese. Especially since she does the same voice as Rose I love Ed's though, Vic has one of the best voices. Al is great. Aaron was perfect for that job and I think he did it better than Rie. Winry's was great too ^^ I lurve Winry's. Hughes makes me laugh You gotta love Hughes, his voice is perfect. I thought Lust was great too. Although, she does sound a little too young at times =/ Gluttony.......ok his sucks...I have to turn the channel whenever he comes on. Don't care much for Envy's either...

I haven't heard Greed yet, but I have heard the person playing him in interviews. I don't think his voice suits the character, so I'm not really expecting it to be all that great...Haven't heard Wrath either but I heard his was good. I love Izumi's voice though. She was great

The dub's not horrible and it's one of the best that I've seen.
