Thanks. I wasn't sure where to put this. biggrin.gif

I know they were both born in Pennsylvania.
Fullmetal666
I'm glad to see that Vic will be returning as the voice of Ed in the new FullMetal Alchemist series. He seems to really like the series, and seems to care about his fans.
I think that it's sad that people make up rumors that make the guy sound like he's a monster.
KwiatekAlchemist
It's so dumb that people started those rumors about him .__.
I LOVE him! he's such a great and nice guy,
I've only seen him once at an anime convention last year, but I never got a chance to go up and talk to him. sad.gif
I'm going to another one this year and I'm hoping to meet Vic <3

And also, I can't wait until Vic does the dub for brotherhood, I know he'll be amazing as usual smile.gif <33

I kind of hope they can get a kid, or just someone who sounds younger, to play the parts with little Ed, but that is unlikely due to costs and such...

Or maybe they'll speed up Vic Mignogna's voice to make it sound higher, and we'll have Chipmunk Ed! smile.gif

I remember hearing Vic address the issue of young Ed at a con panel - he said that even though it felt weird to be doing the voice of a little kid, at the time they were hesitant to use someone young because it was a very heavy and emotional scene.

--lunatics. Kids have great emotional range in their voices... ever heard a little kid scream just for the heck of it? I certainly can't do that. laugh.gif

Seriously though; Vic is a voice actor. Couldn't he have at least tried to sound a bit younger in the scene? It just sounded like regular Vic/Ed voice. Which as many have commented: it just sounded weird!

Hell, Aaron Dismuke did a pretty good job and he was only 11 years old to start the series.

Kids are often better actors. Don't underestimate the lil 'uns! Aaron is a pretty good example.

Kids also tend to be more... naturally dramatic. Just go to any grocery store, and you'll see what I mean. wink.gif

i'm one of those anti-Vic out there. he's too old for ed, he used the same voice for all the characters he played. i just hate hearing his voice for ed. and especially after FMAB eng dub released. that is so not ed.

Hmmm really? Because I've heard his voice over for Ikkaku on Bleach and he sounds nothing like Ed! Voice doesn't sound the same to me. *shrugs* And how is he too old to voice Ed? You know, I wish some of you people would actually sit back and think about how challenging voice acting in English can actually be, especially when they're trying to live up to their Japanese counterparts. Instead you're so quick to criticize them and say "oh they're too old! they suck! etc..."
Broken Chouchou
Huh. Just watched the extras on my recently purchased DVD, where Vic was talking about the series. Never knew he was so... lame.
Dearheart
^^ Errr...could you elaborate?

hmm. as expected =________=||. what are the things he said about the series?

I agree. I would like an elaboration as well. I don't quite understand how somebody enjoying their job or loving the anime they voice makes them lame, but whatever.
Broken Chouchou
Well, the fact that he, a grown man, practically cried when talking about what working on the anime meant to him... I think that says it all really.

Nothing wrong with passionate enthusiasm for your work.

It's his delivery I've got a problem with.

Having passion for what you do is great. But this - my first encounter with the person behind the voice, of course I was going to get thrown off, as you tend to be in most cases - was just ridicilous. He came off as laughably sensitive. I was thinking ″Oh c'mon, REALLY?″when he made comparisons to his own childhood, and when his eyes started tearing up. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the guy. Only thought that he was a bit overly squemish. Just my impression, though.

Out of curiosity, what are these rumours about him I see people mentioning?

Well, I guess I can kinda see where you're coming from. A guy crying over an anime show does sound lame at first...but let's be honest here! FMA isn't your average anime! biggrin.gif It's an amazing show with amazing characters and it delves into very deep themes. It goes one step beyond mere amusement or "entertainment" because it touches hearts and inspires people; it makes you laugh and cry and think a little deeper about your own life. (I've even heard stories of how FMA helped people deal with depression!) That's how FMA is for me, at least. And I think that's how it is for Vic, too. smile.gif If you think that's lame...I don't agree, but I won't throw bricks at you either. tongue.gif

HOWEVER, if you REALLY want to see the person behind the voice, search "Vic Mignogna" on YouTube and watch a few videos of him at anime cons. In my opinion, he is anything but lame. He's a really cool, friendly guy with a great sense of humor, and he's really good at looking deeper into the characters he plays; especially Ed. Vic isn't perfect by any means and you may not always agree with his opinions, but it's easy to see that he's an awesome person...and he always tries hard to express his opinions in a respectful way that won't step on anyone's toes.

To answer this, I'll just refer back to one of my previous posts:

I know this is a bit out of the blue, but Vic has just gone up several notches on the awesomeness scale. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Subtitles vs. Dubs, Stupid Rumors, and NOT Hating Yaoi Fans

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmLVhY4OfhA

And coming behind-the-scenes straight from the ACEN staff:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsyaA_gbAME

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzRh5UzVQJU

If THIS doesn't disprove all the stupid rumors and the "Vic-Mignogna-is-arrogant-and-mean-to-the-staff" crap, I don't know WHAT will. dry.gif

There are lots of dumb rumors floating around the internet that Vic is an arrogant diva, that he's mean to the staff at conventions, that he hates yaoi fans, etc...and of course, anyone who's met him in person knows that it's a load of BS. If he rubs people the wrong way, if his popularity annoys them or if they think he's overrated or a bad actor, fine. That's their opinion. But slandering him? Spreading hateful lies just because you don't like him? That's just wrong, immature and spiteful. dry.gif

And yes, I'm done ranting. xD
Broken Chouchou
FMA is great, one of my favourite animes, and it does get to you, it makes you feel, it brings forth heartfelt emotions out of you, and it does make you reflect over things in life. But, if someone claims to have been helped out of depression from watching FMA, all I can say is that it can't have been a very serious one.

Anyway... thank you for your rant? XD After watching those vids you provided, okay, fine, I'll admit. My first impression seems to have been wrong, about him as a person. But that's exactly what it was (which I thought was pretty clear): a first impression, nothing more, and I stand by that in the documentary I watched, I did find him and the way he came off as to be lame, and I'm sure I still would, if I were to watch it again.

Fair enough? tongue.gif

(On a side note I'd like to stress again that it was the first time I encountered him, and you're (almost) always judging (to varying extents) when you see/meet people for the first time, be it concious or not, intentional or not, negative or not. You can deny it and say that you're not, but then you're most likely a liar, or just not aware of it.)

I think Vic is awesome! I'm a proud Risembool Ranger (I've just sent a letter to a new book like this one! For his birthday. It's not all about anime, Chouchou! Listen to his (very sweet and corny! (or lame, if you think so)) little speach! (I cried...)) and I hope to meet him someday, and yes, I know I sound totally creepy-maniac-bimbo-fangirl!! But I'm not XP. No, really, I just think he's such a little ray of sunshine in this world. (now, I'm the corny one...)
I've never heard any rumors, and I'm glad about that. It would really make me depressed if I saw any, I mean, Vic is so...NICE.
I've only watched, like, 6 episodes of FMA dubbed, so I'm not projecting my Ed-fangirlism on him. I've just listened to his music and seen vids of him from cons. And he answers fanmails! (I've written one, and got an answer (with several lines, not just a thank you. biggrin.gif) two days later <3))
All I ask is you give him a chance, Chouchou. (although, you're a guy...maybe I shouldn't push it XD, he not a machoman, exactly) No harsh feelings, 'cause we owe eachother some drawings/pictures, om jag inte misstar mig? >.<U
shanryelric
well to be able to dub our great ed, he's great. but I don't know why.. no matter how much i saw him at cons videos, or whatever, I never get the 'great part' of him. for me he's just so so.
Dearheart
I posted this in my dA journal, but I'm posting it here too because I can't stop gloating.

VIC MIGNOGNA JUST COMMENTED ON ONE OF MY VIDEOS YOU GUYS.

Ed, Al and Winry - You're Everything

He said, and I quote, "What an absolutely beautiful video. You did an AMAZING job. I think I can speak for Edward when I say.... I LOVE IT smile.gif"

*squees* I have no idea how he found MY amv out of all the thousands there are on YouTube, but he did, and he COMMENTED, AND HE LIKED IT! HE REALLY REALLY LIKED IT! AND HE SAID IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! AND LOOK AT THE SMILEY FACE! LOOK AT IT! *pant* *pant* *pant*

Anyway, after reading it over and over and then beating my inner fangirl back into submission, I replied back: "Wow...that's high praise to hear, coming from the voice of my all-time favorite protagonist! I know you're a busy guy, so it means a lot to me that you took time to watch this, let alone compliment it. You just put me on cloud 9! Thank you so much!! And while I'm at it, thank you for everything. Your music, your acting, your shining witness for God, the heart you put into Ed...I see so much joy in you, and it's beautiful. I hope someday I can bless you as you've blessed me. =)"

And I meant every word, especially in that last part. I've only seen him on YouTube and haven't had the privilege of meeting him in person yet, but his awesomeness is blindingly obvious. (Seriously...how many VAs do you know who answer every fan letter and watch AMVs, let alone COMMENT on them??) People like Vic are rare. Not only is he talented, but he's got a great sense of humor, he's compassionate, he puts so much heart into what he does, he genuinely loves his fans...and he genuinely loves his God. He's blessed and inspired so many people in so many ways, including me. I can only hope I can give a little bit of that back to him someday, somehow. wub.gif
EdokunEdo
I love vic for his acting but it was a bit bad when i went to japanese and came bck to english i was all like "Whoa did he really sound like this?" I can deal with it but i got so used to romi
Luxuria-Cat
Uh...I really don't know much about Vig Mignogna, so I can't say I love or hate him.
It's not that I dislike his voice, it's just that I think his voice is too old and does not sound right for Ed.
Envy's Lady
I met Vic in 2009.

However, I'd like to meet him again, this time in my Envy costume. lol. I didn't have that back in 2009....in 2009 I was just dressed as myself. XD lol.

He seems pretty nice whenever I've talked to him(the time I met him and I did send him a short e-mail about 3 times over the course of time and he always replied).

Anyway, I think his voice is fine for Ed. The first FMA series was one of the best dubs out there....pretty much everyone sounded fine with their characters.

I don't know about Brotherhood...haven't seen much of the dub version of it yet, only the Japanese. And although I do like Wendy Powell as Envy I do like Envy's Japanese voice better for that. That is a really skilled VA, really suited Envy.

Kimblee's voice in Brotherhood bothers me the most....since he's not as crazy and psychotic as first anime Kimblee so that voice just does not work anymore in my opinion.
Tombow
^ @Green Eyed Envy - I've never met him, but I'd also love to meet him sometime. ^^

Yes, I love your video, and I'm so glad Vic has seen it!! It really is a great video IMO, and I kind of understand that it has touched Vic, like it has touched me. ^^

I think Vic has commented his appreciation for Tobuishi's English translations of "Brother" some years ago also. It's always nice to hear those positive reactions by FMA casts who seem to genuinely love FMA, to works done by some of our members who are not just FMA fans but also have sincere love for FMA. biggrin.gif
