Also about the ED- with the tempo of the music and the animation, anyone else get the feeling that it's almost more like an opening than an ending? That continuous shot of all the characters- ed, Al, the chimeras, scar, etc- seems like something you would more likely see in the opening credits.

I agree. The opening and ending seem very similar. That ending seems to be all over the place actually. The way they show moving shots with Ed and Hawkeye and stuff... then move to the still shots with Roy, Hoho and Trisha... then the action shot with the chimeras... it's everywhere, I dont like it. The opening is nice though. Composition is nice, the animation it self seems about the same quality as the episodes though.

I kinda liked the OP-song after listening ot it several times, until...
QUOTE ("Broken Chouchou")
The song is good, but sometimes it sorta reminds of something from the Eurovision song contest we have here in Europe.... which is not happy association DD:

Oh, noes! It DO sound very "schlager"! I can see glitter and smoke-machines in front of me D:
Nah, I still like it...

My favorite part of the animation is when all the people "gather" around Al and Ed, 'cause this isn't just about them, they have so many friends now! And the sencond after: Al's body. YEY! But, it seems too "alive" to be just the body, so I'm thinking, it's Al in there!
Lalalalala...I don't really like fightings-scenes sooo...But I get a omnious feel when the Gate scatter....*shudder*

How it stands among the other songs...The first three OP were just genious, in my opinion. Three of the best songs I've ever heard, even if I was unsure about 'Golden time lover', it just caught me! Now, hearing the 4th OP for the fifth time, I really like it, it's not genious, but freaking good!

The ED...hm, the animation...We get a smiling Hohenheim, that's something! I like the hands in the end, and going in and out of the tunnel, but Winry just walking annoys me to no end!! I like Winry, but the Walking!

Of the other endings I think 'Let it out' was awesome and the other two were tied "very good". This song 'Shunkan Sentimental'...I really don't know...gah! I don't know...It's defenetly not love at first sight...

Sorry for ruining it! xD But it is very schlager, isn't it? Weird thing is I didn't think so at all before I heard it in the OP XD

The first Ending, can't recall what band did the song, shares first place of best FMA ending ever along with "Tobira" - something (through the door), from the first series, IMO.

Same with the first OP, Yui's Again, simply best, followed by "Ready, Steady Go".

My one thought on the hands was it was perhaps a symbol of what might be. As the lyrics mention a right hand (I believe) I thought they might be suggesting Ed with his right hand returned to him.

Otherwise, it is probably no-one in particular.

Oh, don't worry. As long as it's not anything the UK did in Eurovision. *Shudders*

I also wish that the still images were moving in the ED, I agree with those who thought it was a bit of a mish-mash of still and moving imagery. @_@

Forsaken Love
lovin the new op and end!! One thing i do love about the op is how equal to Ed Al is!! the first anime pissed me off cause Al was such an unloved character, overshadowed by Ed and Ed allways gets focus over him in things like ops, but in this op it was very apprent to em there is equal ed and al-ness (a little more Al acutually counting his body XD) and since they're allways seen together I'm feeling the brotherly bond! lololol well yeh dont know if anyone else noticed it but it seemed a very al empowering op to me, they even showed him with mei before ed got shown with winry so their even matching his and ed's op pairing-ness XD I really like the fast paced ending even though its kinda op-ish, bar ending 1 the other 2 were a bit boring to me, and i love both songs think der greeeeat, oh one thing about the end, was what was the hand thing about? I assumed it was like the 'child' brothers rejoining with their present selfs because they want to go back to before they lost their bodies, but rewatching, the adult hand just seems to be too big for Ed's hand, out of everyone that come directly to mind it looks most like Hoho's but yeh, whats that part there for? XD

Nah, I was mostly thinking of the "Eurovison sound" in general, very pretty, plastic, shallow and sleazy etc... It feels like you have heard several songs resembling this OP in sound, but I can't quite place a specific contribution (man, now it sounds like I actually use to watch this crap). Sounds like something that might come out of Turkey or Greece, maybe tongue.gif
A Pierrot's Aria
^I know what you mean by it. =P I was just saying the UK entries always sounded the worst and I'm glad the OP at least doesn't sound like that! xDxD

It may also have to do with slow connection I have today. Anyway, it's not the first time that host did that to me, so I would prefer not to wait guilibly for it to show. ....*waits anyway* EDIT: It works now!

First of all, thank you Levive and the one who uploaded this in the first place. The whole song is very catchy, but for me, it gets a little too chaotic somewhere in the middle, around the solo (and the solo itself). My favorite parts are that riffs that are, unfortunately, only at the beginning and ending of the song (and ending is cut a bit: <). Overally, a good ending. IMO better than the previous one and breaks the convention of slow endings. This one really suits FMA.

EDIT: Upon hearing the song for the second time, I find it very nice. Only parts that ticks me off are that high pitched ones.

Blacksteel
...*wanders into the thread*

A friend of mine who lurks on these forums, ah... persuaded me to post on this thread because I made an attempt to translate Lapis Philosophorum the other day. I took Latin in high school for two years, and the last time I'd ever touched my Latin books was three years ago, but I did my best with translating this song because it was my favourite off of the soundtrack and because I myself was really curious to see what it was about.

Lapis philosophorum lapis ruber lapis quantus sacrificium vis caputo felicitas
Stone of philosophers, stone of red, stone of immeasurable sacrifice, see the beginning of happiness

Debes sapio debes ibi multa miseria tua retro calamitatis habes saputo felicitas
You, who ought to be wise, ought to be there to accept the multitude of suffering in your unfortunate past to discover happiness

Ubi es inpedis terra e tempus anteactus
Where are you, trapped land from the past
sapies eo quam erant cadeveris infinitatis
You, who are wise, prepare for how they endlessly died

Debes sapio debes ibi multa miseria tua retro calamitatis habes saputo felicitas
You, who ought to be wise, ought to be there to accept the multitude of suffering in your unfortunate past to discover happiness

Ubi es inpedis terra e tempus anteactus
Where are you, trapped land from the past
sapies eo quam erant cadeveris infinitatis
You, who are wise, prepare for how they endlessly died

Specta mortuus specta si denuo desiderium
See the dead, see if it renews your desires
Sapies habebis tueri sanguinem brachi pedis rubus
You, who are wise, who has seen the red blood of arm and leg
Lapis philosophorum lapis ruber affecto quam res...?
Stone of philosophers, stone of red, how many more things will you affect...?

Now, I'll admit I had a lot of trouble translating this. There are multiple meanings for a lot of verbs, and I had to puzzle out what the rest of the words meant before I could settle down upon one meaning. In several instances, whoever wrote these lyrics isn't following a proper grammar structure, not to mention "brachi pedis" literally translates to "arm foot" and "brachi" isn't even the proper word for "arm" in Latin.

"Sapies" essentially translates to "wise", but in the context it's being used it translates to "wise man" or "philosopher". I opted to translate it as "he who is wise" to make it sound more formal to suit the tone of the rest of the song, and because "philosophers" as a word was already used with "philosophorum".

Worst parts to translate were "inpedis terra" and "debes ibi multa...felicitas". That last phrase especially caused me a hell of a lot of grief.

And for the record, to sound at least up-to-date on this topic, I really like the new opening and ending songs, but I wish the ending had less stills and more action. xD
Tombow
@Blacksteel - Welcome to our board, and thank you for the translation!! happy.gif

Blacksteel
Thank you very much, and you're welcome!

I might translate "Trisha's Lullaby" too, but at a later date. The frustration in this translation is still too fresh in my mind. xD
SneakyRuler
Thank you, Backsteel, thank you very much for translating it. Had a little Latin in high school but I would be never able to put it together so it makes sense! You're awesome!

Forgot to thank Levive for bringing full ED song ohmy.gif Thank you as well! I guess this song os something you just get used to. I loved Tsunaida Te immediately, the first time I saw the ED (loved the song, the ED however.... was a little still to my liking). Shunkan Sentimental is... don't know what to say. It's a good thing the song's structured into more parts, have to listen more closely to create an opinion.

Thanks heavens for 'Edit' button, you wouldn't believe how many typos I tend to find after posting.

Just to make it 'even' to Period - Shunkan Sentimental PV here. This time I see some references to... PV for Hologram. No, really, I'm serious.

Thank you!

IMO there's nothing special in this PV. No comparison to the Period one.

Well, the girls are pretty.

anybody realised? in the OP, realised that Al's armor hair is so short (because of the incident with Buccaneer.) but at the 'many pepople shows up' scene just before the Reff, Al's armor hair back to be LONG again!!! hahaha....

@shanryelric - I moved your post to FMA:Brotherhood OP vid discussion thread. I know your post also contains discussion on the ED vid, but I can not divide your post into two parts and move each part onto the corresponding thread. Hence, if you would like, please repost the part about the ED vid to FMA:Brotherhood ED vid discussion thread. Thank you!

Actually, if you look at the sticker in the top corner of the pic of Roy and Ed, I got it at Kinokuniya Bookstore - which is about a 15min. bus ride from my work. So, all I really paid was for the cd itself and sales tax (which was waived since I have a discount card with them).

^I managed to get onto the Japanese Amazon with my existing English Amazon account...Of course, it helps if you understand it. =P

I find that PlayAsia is a good place to get CDs...That's where I get my anime CDs and stuff. (But make sure to check up on duty tax if necessary...I bought the Fairy Tail Soundtrack which was over £20 and found out that I had to pay £15 duty tax at the door or I couldn't get my package. @_@ In the UK orders over £18 get charged with duty, but usually people get round that by marking it as a gift because that makes the margin go up to around £35. I'm not sure how it goes for other countries.)

And thank you for the upload, AA Battery!

OT: I'll tell you how I ordered from Amazon Japan. There's a link on the main page that says: "In English" and it'll translate the page into English, as well as show you how to place your orders, set up your account, etc. The search field will take English words, so don't be afraid to use it. As for Play-Asia, I use them as well, usually for games and CDs. They didn't have Gangan so I went with Amazon Japan this time.

Hopefully I'll be able to get SCANDAL's maxi single next week, it's definitely become my 2nd favorite ED.

Useless information yey!:
I saw the 46th episode today and noticed during the OP, when it says [Period], two names I found completely out of context: Jonas Myrin and Peter Kvint. (the "context" being a japanese TV-show)
I was like, "omgosh, they sound swedish!". And, oh dear god, I looked them up, and they are!! Kvint is a musician, songwriter and musicproducer and Myrin is a singer, musician and songwriter, "He recently worked on the song, "Period", with Chemistry as one of the composers, which was the fourth opening to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood." (Wiki knows it all >:])
Sweden have(has?) a tiny tiny part to do with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, I'm so proud (it's a wierd thing to be proud of, really. I mean, I didn't do anything...)

Oh, maybe someone can translate what it says in that frame? Before the names, at least. That would be great! wub.gif

oh i noticed them too.. whaw that's cool!!! so they're also non japanese people involved..
