^I'm pretty sure they're not gonna make one. Too much work. Not to mention with the movie, games, and other stuff out and all, it's probably best to just leave it at what it is.
The Frozen Alchemist
I highly doubt that they will make another FMA anime, but it would be really cool.
nwslap12
I think so. I've noticed that manga artists never want to stop, even when they've finished a series. I mean, just look at Dragon Ball GT.
APalchemist5
I agree, and i am torned about this fact.

I really cannot stand the ending of anything good, really a part of me wants fma to continue on even after i die.

But when things go on too long, you get the wonderful buu saga and dragon ball gt (sorry if some people like both, i was personally not a fan)

So, I think FMA should end in the year or two. I would love an anime based on the manga though.

And alot of people didn't like the animation of the first anime, and i got to say, i reallly like the bones animation.

Oh well.
qaghou
Do you know exactly when the creator is supposed to finish FMA in mangas ?
edo little kid
really really I want A NEW

FMA
I love It soooooooooo much

Unfortunately Rikka, anime's that go on for too long ( in other words, the ones that end up with 100+ or 200+ episodes) pretty much end up losing any appeal that they may of once had.

It's all well and good when the anime in-question is a situation comedy anime that has episodes that don't really tie in with one another at all.
Since you can tune in to that, watch perhaps three of four episodes...and not really miss anything of great importance.

But Fullmetal Alchemist is the kind of anime that people need to pay attention to...and of course since we get some people who are fans of the manga say how much more 'smarter' and 'complex' the storyline and characters are in the manga version in comparison to the anime's version.
( Which is something I really don't agree with, but then again...I like the anime version more than the manga's version, so yeah...)

So if a manga version of the anime was made, wouldn't people need to watch *every* single episode that came out; even though they had already read about it and know exactly what happens?

Surely there would be times when the plot would start to feel as if it was dragging on and on ( like an energizer bunny ^^; ) and the only big deal would be made when something exciting finally happened.
But how can something be exciting when people ( except for perhaps, newbies to the fandom) would already know what would happen?

I dunno though...people still follow Bleach and Naruto and those have a ton of episodes ( and excluding the sub-plots, Bleach at least follows the manga pretty much panel for panel. And those scenes are more exciting than when they stray from the manga and make their own little plots). But then they do start to get worse (and I guess you are right, I think they have lost a good portion of their audience)...50 episodes seems to be about the limit for a consistently good anime, and I doubt they could fit 100 chapters into 50 episodes. Maybe though...

I think the biggest concern is money.

You do have good points though.

The only scenes I REALLY want to see are fighting scenes. Like when Roy kills Lust, when Lin fights the Fuhrer, and when greelin fights the fuhrer...I have a little trouble reading fighting scenes, it's so much more fun for me to watch them. And some times the animators add in cool moves too.

And I'd love to see it in color...black in white is perfectly fine, but I still like color.

But like I said, I'm pretty sure they don't have the money.

It's a news from a french magazine (Animeland), you can see the scan. Basically, it says that Square Enix and Bones have secretly worked on a new anime for Fullmetal Alchemist, with a different director. Has anybody else heard about this? I am kinda doubtful here...

If its a scan from a magazine then it has to be real! Though at the same time, someone could easily fake the scan which would really, really suck.
Sannom
The magazine could also be wrong... I mean, why would a french magazine be aware of something like that when nothing has been heard on the net, from Japanese forums or magazines??? Not that it's impossible, but it seems weird to me huh.gif I hope we will get something "solid" soon...

I highly doubt that's real.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but as you said, why would a French magazine release this 'secret' news when Japan hasn't said a word? Besides, PS is too popular nowadays.
Popogeejo
France buys more manga than the US for a start. As for why the French are talking about it first, maybe they're more confident to go on rumours than Japanese media.
APalchemist5
Actually, I also read about the same rumor on onemanga.com forums, I guess they found it on a japanese rumor site, so I dont know if it is completely rediculous....

but then again, I am not believing it until I see it.

and also the key word is 'rumor' site
Saving_Grace
I hope they do. GOD I HOPE THEY DO!

The movie and anime had such crappy endings, it'd be great if they could bring us another season... But wouldn't it just suck if the new series was about Ed, Al and Noah's adventures in WWII?

I did some did some googling on this bones list thing with the numbers which was found, and this is what turned up HERE.

So the BONES leakage was sort of fake, but this still gives a little hope, no? The info (phone numbers & such) were correct and they neither confirmed nor denied FMA2.

Hi everybody!!

I just want to show you an article published on the website ANN (Anime News Network), with an extract of the interview of the Bones Studio's president who realized a few years ago the FMA anime.

Little Fixster
I don't want a sequel though...
I mean, wouldn't a sequel just throw it off even farther from the original plotline?

I think if the animators are going to pick up the series again they need to start from the beginning of the manga and follow it. And I think they need a director that will stick to the manga.
Well I guess they don't need to, but I'm not going to watch it if they don't follow the manga.

First off, I have wanted to be involved with this discussion for a while but I had lost my log-in info. sad.gif

I think a new anime that follows the manga more closely would be fantastic. I am a very big Roy fan and the anime/movie always leave me feeling dissapointed.

A new anime series is always a possibility as some people have previously stated. Some series have had additional series added on over the years to continue what they started and some have had complete remakes. It really is never too late. The Tenchi OVA took 10 years before they finally continued it. And just the past couple of weeks they just started putting out a new Slayers TV series, the last one being years ago (not counting the OVAs). Record of Lodoss War had an OVA and a TV series. The TV took over half way through the OVA and completely re-wrote everything from there.

I could list examples all day but my point is new series and remakes happen all the time. Some completely ignore what has come before them and start over, some just continue where the last left off, and others change and or keep what they want and continue the story.

If FMA were to have a new manga based anime it still doesn't have to follow it exactly frame by frame to still be true to that feeling. There is always room for some changes without going too far off. If the manga is going to end fairly soon it would be quite possible to do it again in two seaons. Or as someone earlier mentioned it is also possible to do a series and a few OVAs or a movie to finish it up. The sky is the limit I am sure you all know. If anyone be it Arakawa or Square Enix or who ever feels there is money to be made I am sure they will do something with it.

For those that commented it would be too much work, I wouldn't consider that to be an issue. It isn't any more or less work to go back and follow the manga than it is for any other series that gets animated. They all get paid either way.

I did enjoy the original anime, it is what got me into FMA. Once I read the manga I was completely drawn in to that version when I saw how much more there was to the story. I really would like to see all that the anime was missing get animated as well as all the characters we didn't get to see.

One more final note on another series they have gone back and redone. Ah My Goddess was originally animated well over 10 years ago. It was too short to be able to faithfully follow the manga. Just a couple of years ago they just went back and made the new TV series to follow the manga more closely. Something like that makes me believe without a doubt that a new FMA anime is even more possible, if not now, some day.
Saving_Grace

I think one of the reasons that they did re-make Ah My Goddess was because there was such a considerable gap between the two shows, I don't think they'd re-do FMA manga-style when the anime only came out, what, like four, five years ago. I could be wrong though...

I dunno. The first half of FMA was pretty darn close to the manga, so I can't speak for you guys, but I don't wanna see all that again. I wouldn’t want to see the manga ending animated either, because I already know what happens. I want something fresh, a new storyline. I think I'm the only one that actually wants them to continue where the movie left off... dry.gif

I'd still love it if a new series had a few manga elements to it, though. Wouldn't it be awesome to see Ling and Olivia Armstrong? There’s no limit to what they could do.

Anyhoo. Has Arakawa or anyone involved actually said the manga was nearing it' end? I know it's shaping up that way, but at the same time it could easily keep going for a few more years. I'm not going to make an assumption either way.

That is true and not true. Actually, only the parts in Lior and Youthweel are mainly the same. The death of Nina is different, as is the ensuing fight against Scar. The way they meet Marcoh is also quite different. But it's when you reach the 5th laboratory that things start to be really different, so around the 3rd volume. The 5th laboratory is a way more important part in the anime. The ensuing drama with Alphonse doubting his humanity has also been lengthened quite a bit in the anime, and the part in Rush Valey is on the same level of "not alikeness" than the part in the laboratory (a lot longer in the manga, and a lot more interesting). The flashback is more or less the same, as his the part in Dublith, except for the end.
Saving_Grace
Well yes, details were changed and so forth, but the episode plots went in fairly similar directions. When I started to read the manga, despite the fact that I adored the storyline, I still found it very boring near the start because I already knew what was going to happen. Going over it all a third time just doesn't appeal to me.

Besides, it would just break my heart if they did it manga-based and screwed it up. sad.gif

I apologize if this has been mentioned before, but I heard a rumor that moonphase is talking about making another anime. It's on this page in the daily dose section

And finally, in the aftermath of the leaked BONES document incident, MOON PHASE confirms that he got word a while ago that there is indeed a new Full Metal Alchemist series in the works - an original manga version - likely to be officially announced at the end of the year.

I don't know how true it is, so please don't kill me if it's wrong. LOL wink.gif

Regarding the new FMA series, I say it's pretty true. Why do I say that? Let's all take a look at one of the old FMA official website...
http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Animation/hagaren/1st/

See anything different there?
No?
How about take a closer look at the url?
Still don't see it?
How about take a closer look at the end of the url, where it says "1st"?

I think I got my point across. That "1st" was NOT there before. XD

(Credit to whoever noticed it first. I saw this on a FMA fan's message board a few days ago.)
natsu-hime
i tried to change the 1st with 2nd, and the link didn't work. but when i erased the 1st, it links to the BOXSET ARCHIVES web. but i'm kinda curious, why did they bother to change it to 1st?

i'm feeling that they're planning some kinda surprise for us. maybe they'll insert some extras in the archives?
but yet, i can't say anything. usually my guesses become right...especially if i wanted it to be right. and if people are giving me news here and there about FMA sequels and stuffs, i'll trust it if it comes from a reliable source.
FmaRulz111
Sorry, but it's not likely. sad.gif

Well of course...

Anime official sites are usually not up and running at least until after an official announcement of the anime. And usually they are not up even right after that. From past experience, the official anime site only start to be up and running about 3 months before premier. Heck, some anime doesn't bother with making a website (but of course that won't be the case for FMA). So it's deadly obvious why you won't get anything with the "2nd" right now.

I don't think a 2nd anime is unlikely now, as FMA manga is indeed approaching its end. I think it's possible for a second anime to start airing in late 2010 or early 2011.

So, apparently the chances of another FMA anime have just shot up to 100%. I know, obvious enough, but it answers the question, right?

Anyway, general happiness on the topic. smile.gif

~ New Fma Anime Coming Soon, based on manga : Confirmed this friday ~

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-...eries-confirmed

Yes, it's happening. The rumor has been confirmed. Read

The wraparound jacket band on the 20th volume of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga will confirm on Friday that a new television anime series is in the works. A new anime series was a topic of much fan discussion for several months, but it was thrust into a more public spotlight last month when a management document was purportedly leaked from the BONES anime studio. The document listed Fullmetal Alchemist animator Yasuhiro Irie as "Hagane 2 kantoku" (Iron/Fullmetal 2 director).

After the purported leak, BONES President Masahiko Minami posted an official statement that said that no file with this same formatted information existed within the company. When asked about the possibility of a sequel to Fullmetal Alchemist or Darker than BLACK (another BONES anime), Minami told ANN, "It hasn't been decided yet. We are interested in doing them. As original science-fiction works, they were extremely fascinating. With these kinds of dramatic story lines, I feel that there's a lot we could do potentially."

Viz Media will publish the 17th volume of the manga version in North America this October, while FUNimation Entertainment released both the first television series and its theatrical movie finale.
