Oishinbo is a drama about newspaper reporters. The main character is a cynical food critic named Yamaoka. Oishinbo is a popular mainstream comic for adults in Japan. It is even mentioned in an episode of "Iron Chef".

The newspaper office, Tozai Shinbun, plans to publish the "Ultimate Menu" to commemorate their 100th anniversary. It would not only describe foods but also pass on dietary cultures for many generations to come. Despite its importance, Yamaoka Shiro, a lazy employee, and Kurita Yuko, a company newcomer, are selected as the editors.
