Anyways, I say let this thread be the place for lovers and haters to come by and debate it. Also, don't be afraid to pimp fics or art, because this pairing has SOOOO little of either, it's depressing.
It shouldn't be new to anyone that Rowin is my het OTP. I love it. :<
So: Why do I like it?
Because it's angsty and I love angst and it can be full of SCANDAL. It opts for a much more interesting read than some pairings. And it's a challenge to write. Just like in HughesxRoy there is something that can keep these two apart. A fanfic writer with true skill can work around this obstacle and still make it believable. In Hyuroi, it happens to be easier - set it pre marriage, or alternate universe or make Hughes a bloody homunculus. In Rowin, it's harder, at least in the anime. By now we should all know what that is that could keep them apart. A writer has to think about how to make them work with Winry's feelings about her parents and Roy in tact and in confliction. To me, there isn't a more satisfying read than someone who succesfully pulls this off.
As for the event that can keep them apart, I want everyone to think of Winry's feelings towards Roy at the end of the series. Winry is confused after she finds out and hurt - because as she said, she knew Mustang was a good man. He's not the monster she thought her parents' killer would be. When she hears a bit more of the story and how Roy wants to change the way things are done as a result of that event, I think she forgives him. She'll never forget what he did and probably won't forgive him 100%, but she knows it wasn't his fault. He pulled the trigger, but it was his superiors that told him to do it.
So I don't see it as something that can prevent them from ever having a relationship. I do see it as something that could cause grief in their relationship and guilt for Winry tho. Take for example the fic I'm working on.....actually, I'll save that for another time.
I'll shut up for now so some other opinions can be stated. So, haters, lovers, on the fencers, post away. Don't get too carried away with any bashing - you don't have to like the pairing, but at least respect those who do and hear our reasoning out.
