Because I searched the forums and didn't see a topic like this ANYWHERE...

Lately, because of a few people on these forums (you know who you are!!) I've been getting interested in OPM ("Original Pinoy Music") and am looking for some good groups from the Philippines to check out.

So far, I've become familiar with Rivermaya, Calalilly, and MYMP.
If anyone knows of other bands that are worth checking out, please, post here!

Mwahaha, we will take over the world...WITH OPM! XD

ERASERHEADS. They practically started everything and were probably even around before I was born. XD Too bad they had to disband and now their members are all over the OPM scene doing their own things. I'd post more songs, but the other songs I know are (mostly) in Filipino and I'm too lazy to do translations right now. >_>;;; Plus, homework. XD

With a Smile
Eraserheads

Lift your head, baby, don't be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You'll get by with a smile
You can't win at everything but you can try.

Baby, you don't have to worry
'Cause there ain't no need to hurry
No one ever said that there's an easy way
When they're closing all their doors
And they don't want you anymore
This sounds funny but I'll say it anyway.

Girl, I'll stay through the bad times
Even if I have to fetch you everyday
You'll get by with a smile
You can never be too happy in this life.

In a world where everybody
Hates a happy ending story
It's the one you love that can make the world go round
But don't let it bring you down
And turn your face into a frown
You'll get along with a little prayer and a song.

(Too doo doo doo...)
Let me hear you sing it
(Too doo doo doo...)

In a world where everybody
Hates a happy ending story
It's a wonder love can make the world go round
But don't let it bring you down
And turn your face into a frown
You'll get along with a little prayer and a song.

Lift your head, baby, don't be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You'll get by with a smile
Now it's time to kiss away those tears goodbye

(Too doo doo doo...)
Let me hear you sing it
(Too doo doo doo...)

And Bamboo. Yes. One of the members of this band, if I'm not mistaken, was once part of the E-heads. And their first CD was the very first one I bought in my life. XD *cough* Anyway, they have a pretty broad range of songs - from mellow ballads to upbeat rock, they've got it all. Here's one of their more energetic songs.

These Days
Bamboo

These days
I seem to find
A million reasons to sit around and waste my mind
I know what's being said and that's all fine
You tell me to get a life
Do you understand the weight of that line?
Take me for all I am

CHORUS
'Cause I can find my own way
Big date tonight
There's no tomorrow
So let's leave it on the line
'Cause there's time
It's not too late to change direction
Turn your head, son
So let's leave it on the line

There's something within
That's telling me that I'm just playing it too cool
I could pretty much lose everything
I never had an apple that tasted so, so sweet
Given the chance, the choice
Take me for all I am

[Repeat CHORUS]

Today, I am free
Free to fly
Free to be what they tell me I cannot be
Happy birthday to me

[Repeat CHORUS]

Is this the light at the end?
Where the picture is clearer
The reception is warmer
Is this the light at the end?
You're looking lot better
We're happy to see ya
Is this the light at the end?
You got what you came for
You know where to find the door
Is this the light at the end?
Where the women are hot
But the beer's a lot colder
Is this the light at the end?
Yo momma's looking good
What she doing for dinner?
Is this the light at the end?
If yo momma's busy
Does she have a younger sister?
Is this the light at the end?
You got what you came for
You know where to find the door
Is this the light at the end
Is this the light at the end?

You know I woke up to beautiful morning
Till you showed up
Nauseous, I was to see you
Standing there in my presence
But it was all right
'Cause I'm not about to fight
When this bird wants to sing, I'll sing

Gunpoint, that supposed to scare me into submission
A slave to your will, fear, greed and ambition
But I'm not game...
I'm not game to your flame
There's no discussion
I will fight to the end, fighter
I will fight to the end...

And last one before I leave...Sponge Cola is one of those younger, college-ish bands. Like Bamboo, they have a wide spectrum as well, and here's one of their slower, more romantic songs. The music video is also beautiful - it shows two people rehearsing for Romeo and Juliet. The guy playing the Romeo wannabe is also the vocalist's brother. wink.gif

Gemini
Sponge Cola

Come a little closer
Flicker in flight
We’ll have about an inch space
But I’m here
I can breathe in
What you breathe out

[CHORUS]
Let me know if I’m doing this right
Let me know if my grip’s too tight
Let me know if I can stay all of my life
Let me know if dreams can come true
Let me know if this one’s yours too

‘Cause I see it
And I feel it
Right here
And I feel you right here

The vacuous night
Steps aside to give meaning
To Gemini’s dreaming
The moon on its back
And the seemingly veiled room’s lit
By the same star

[CHORUS]

And I feel it right here
And I feel you right here

You should check out Hale, Bamboo and Orange & Lemons as well... smile.gif The Philippines [where I currently live as a college student] produces pretty good bands...some of them though, can be kinda stereotypical and well, dumb to a certain degree.

Champ, the lead vocalist of Hale, has truckloads of fangirls XDDDDD

Hey, you live in the Philippines as well? Fun. =D I'm also a college student there! And it's true, there are some bands/artists I don't like too much, but the sheer number of artists just shows how the music industry is thriving. happy.gif

And for the sake of staying on-topic...here's another song which I plugged into the Royai thread. It's by 6cyclemind, another OPM band I like.

Prinsesa (Princess)
6CycleMind

Nakaupo siya sa isang madilim na sulok (She is sitting in a dark corner)
Ewan ko ba kung bakit sa libo-libong babaeng nandoon (I don't know why among all the others)
Wala pang isang minuto (Not even a minute has passed)
Nahulog na ang loob ko sa'yo (My soul has fallen for you)

Gusto ko sanang marinig ang tinig mo (I wish to hear your voice)
Umasa na rin na sana'y mahawakan ko ang palad mo (Also long to hopefully touch your palm)
Gusto ko sanang lumapit (I wish to come closer)
Kung hindi lang sa lalaking kayakap mo (If it weren't for the man embracing you)

(CHORUS)
Dalhin mo ako sa iyong palasyo (Bring me to your palace)
Maglakad tayo sa hardin ng 'yong kaharian (Let's walk in the garden of your kingdom)
Wala man akong pag-aari (Even though I own nothing)
Pangako kong habang buhay kitang pagsisilbihan (I promise to serve you all my life)
O aking prinsesa (O my princess)
Prinsesa (Princess) - 3x

'Di ako makatulog (I can't sleep)
Naisip ko ang ningning ng 'yong mata (I thought of the twinkling of your eyes)
Nasa isip kita buong umaga, buong magdamag (You are in my mind all morning, all the time)
Sana'y parati kang tanaw (I wish to always see you)
O ang sakit isiping ito'y isang panaginip (Oh, it's so painful to think of this as a dream)
Panaginip lang (Only a dream)

Repeat CHORUS

Prinsesa
Prinsesa
Prinsesa...

And he's got talent. I have to admit, his voice does make me swoon... XDDDDDDDDDDDD

Here's another song - this time, yes, by Hale. Ever since I heard this song I have always loved Hale...hey, so I've always loved Hale ever since they entered the music scene, 'cause this is their first single. XD

Broken Sonnet
Hale

And now I concede
On the night of this fifteenth song
Of melancholy, of melancholy
And now I will admit in this fourth line
That I love you, that I love you.

I donít care what they say
I donít care what they do
ĎCause tonight Iíll leave my fears behind
ĎCause tonight Iíll be right at your side

The clock on the TV says 8:39 pm
Itís the same, itís the same
And in this next line
Iíll say it all over again
That I love you, that I love you

I donít care what they say
I donít care what they do
ĎCause tonight Iíll leave my fears behind
ĎCause tonight Iíll be right at your side

Lie down right next to me
Lie down right next to me
And I will never let go
Will never let go.

Iíll leave my fears behind
ĎCause tonight Iíll be right at your side

Lie down right next to me
Lie down right next to me
And I will never let go
Will never let go

But still I see the tears from your eyes
Maybe Iím just not the one for you

Okay-- Oranges and Lemons I've heard of. (And even have some of thier stuff.) They did music for the anime "Azumanga Daioh", right?

Been downloading a BUNCH of MYMP. I'm pretty hooked on the song "Tell me Where it Hurts." (It even plays on my CosSpace profile. XD)

I'm going to have to check out some of these other groups. I have not been home very much this past month, so I'm behind on checking my threads AND downloading stuff. blink.gif

Orange and Lemons. The orange isn't plural. ^^;;; Different band.

MYMP ROCKS. I swear. Their remakes of old songs are really good.
