what is the transmutation circle? is it similar to the array? Or is the transmuation circle the thing on Roys gloves? How is it used to use alchemy

Words Array and Transmutation Circle are generally used interchangeably when talking about alchemy in Fma. Yes, the circle on Roy's glove is a transmutation circle.

If you watch anime from the begining, or read manga, I think that would probably get you pretty good understanding of transmutation circles.

OR, if you go through pages in this thread, you will probably find several links that have very good info on transmutation circles.
Here is one example: Link posted by Katana Alchemist on page 14
Snake-Alchemist
yup, but remember that alchemic formulas in real life have nothing to do with arrays.

Niiiice shot- Cobalt Alchemist!

Thanks, Hydrogen Alchemist. I decided to make that ... whenever it was, that was a long time ago it seems. Now that I'm back from london and Germany on a research hunt, heh. Perhaps I can actually REMEMBER what I did there...
Hmmm
Im trying to find pics of the transmuation circles from ishbal and the one on scar and his brother.
If anyone can help me with these pics i would definitely appreciate it thanks.

I looked for some webpages with trasmutation circles, all I could find was this ... It has some mistakes in some of the drawings, so I recomend you to take these as references and then look for the one that you liked n_ņ. I didnīt read all the answers, so sorry if anybody posted a better link. You may want to look for a really good tatoo artist since many of the circles aren't very easy to draw ņ_n Well, hope this was usefull. tongue.gif

I just noticed that the transmutation circle around the golden tripod in the "Alchemy Exam" episode was edited out for the English episode. What's up with this? I drew it too, so I'll scan it and post it as soon as I can. biggrin.gif

Here's the circle that appears around the golden chair in the interview portion of the Alchemy Exam. For some reason it was omitted from the English dub.

Yay im back as Weapons Alchemist, Cya 1st Lieutenant Fuzor Leogala, damn that was a long name rolleyes.gif
Katana Alchemist

That array that was holding Al down was absolutely lovely. Same with the one he created a couple seconds later on all the walls when he brought Ed back to life. Those would be quite beautiful as tattoos.

However, just a word of advice. I got a tattoo recently (a zen poem, not anything FMA) and there is a limit to the amount of detail a tattoo artist can put down. The ink of the very best tattoo artist bleeds together a little so if you have many fine lines close together, they can melt into a big indescript blob.

A good tattoo artist will tell you this and if they don't you may want to consider another one with more experience.

If you desire true alchemy symbols try this web research site: Alchemy Database (Warning: This site is huge, but they have a whole section relating to alchemy symbols.)

PS- I have a feeling this is in the wrong forum.
Greensky
Ya, it could be the wrong forum eh? Well if I do any alchemy symbol it would more than likely be the human transmutation symbol:

I still can't find any large/clear pictures of anything! Ouroboros, serpent's cross or transmutation circle... I didn't think that they'd be this hard to find.
The New Fullmetal Alchemist
I've compiled quite a few alchemy-related websites and info in the past few years or so, two of the best (as far as circles go) being these, which have been posted before, but this will save you the trouble of searching! smile.gif :

The Alchemy Website

- good for general info about alchemy, referencing some hard-to-find texts...

Anime Indepth

- great for alchemy as far as FMA is concerned - they have listed a duplication of practically every circle used throughout the anime series (I don't think the movie, though...) Also, the manga has a few unique ones that you don't see in the anime or on the website...

Bradley
go to animeindepth.com then choose fullmetal alchemist
