Full Version: The Top 100 Anime Of 2006
Fullmetal Alchemist Discussion Board > General Discussions > General Anime
3 things surprised me:
#1: How high Kanon (2006) was. I'm watching it and while the characters are likeable and the animation is amazing it still feels like a H-game made into a non H-anime. It should have been lower IMO.

#2: How high Ergo Proxy was. This one caught me out. Whether it was my ego or my stupidity I thought this series would not appeal to a lot of people due to it's philosophical nature and being very dialogue driven. It was nice to see that so many people enjoyed it.

#3: Where the hell is Mushishi? I was under the impression it was released in 2006 and therefore eligible for votes but I didn't see it anywhere...

Still, I highly approve of the top 3. Not sure why Code Geass is doing in the top 5 though...should have been Mushishi.

(Sorry if we have a thread like already but having looked though 10 pages of threads nothing sprang out, plus I'm Welsh and therefore allowed to be stupid.)

Commence word exchange!
Going to agree with you on the top three, though granted I've seen more ofthe second place anime than number one I am fully aware there was no escaping these anime anywhere.

Must get round to getting up to date with the 25th anime.
#34 Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society should have been higher >_> on the list

The melancholy of haruhi ....was a great anime and deserved to be labeled as #1 >_>

I wonder if mushi-shi didn't make the list because it started in the fall of 2005
There were 100 anime in 2006?

That makes my head spin. Along with the fact that people would actually watch that many.

I still don't get what is so great about Haruhi. I just don't. Am I insane or something?
90% of these iv never heard of before
Probably for good reason. 90% of any given thing is bound to be crap, so it figures that most of the new series (I still can't wrap my head around it. There certainly weren't 100 cartoons/animated films coming out in the US in a single year.) were poor enough to be completely missed by the rest of the world.

I still don't get what is so great about Haruhi. I just don't. Am I insane or something?

Not insane, just individual (yay for clichés.)
I think it's Kyon's sarcasm that is the main appeal While other anime do use some sarcasm Haruhi seems to be one of only a few that uses sarcasm as it's main source of humour (Costume-rape being, in my opinion, a secondary source of humour.)

While I think it is great, I also think the fans work to hard promoting it. (Haruhiism seems to be animes equivalent of Hare Krishna laugh.gif )
Hmm. I guess witty dialogue is harder to catch on to in another language.

In other news- looking at the Jyu Oh Sei screenshot, am I the only one who is totally seeing Dilandau from Vision of Escaflowne?
My favourite comment:
QUOTE(On "Mai-Otome Zwei OVA")
The character concepts and designs are probably my most favorite things about this anime. Also the fact they wear extremely tight outfits while blowing stuff up helps. And the eye candy. Who could forget about the eye-candy?

All about the eye candy...
death note was number 2 but i say it shoulda been 1# lol
Omfg, Haruhi was #1!? O_O

Yayz! >3<

Sorry, but I didn't expect that. I thought it would be in the top 10 but not #1. X3 makes me happy. X3

Some of these titles I recognized because of friends and seeing their music on sites like gendou. The majority of them, I didn't know. Most of the higher 30 I did however.
I was surprised about Death Note being pretty high. It is good, yes, but maybe in the 10-20 region. It could also be in the top ten, but #2 is kind of off to me. Just my opinion.
For alot of these, I haven't even heard of them.

Me neither, insane fangirl
Something I'd like to point out...

A significant amount of these are movies, OAVs or 2nd seasons of animes that came out before 2006. So it's not so much that there were 100 new anime in 2006....

but seriously, it almost looks like they took every series that came out this year on this whole list. I think the top 50 anime of 2006 would've been a better idea.
A friend of mine said a while back that the Anime output for 2006 was obscenely high. Now I have a desk referance for that. I mean, 100 new series, OVAs, and films? Ouch.

Not sure how high Code Geass deserved to be on that list, but I'll keep my opinions to myself.
Well, that list gives some additions to my Watch List.

Haruhi in #1! WOOT! I was reading through the list wondering where it was. And then... Woot!

The poll was apparently one in which voters could choose from a list of anime, but there was a write-in section as well. Here are the top 10 series for write-in votes:

1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. The Twelve Kingdoms
4. Planetes
5. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
6. Rozen Maiden
7. AIR
9. Eureka Seven
10. S-CRY-ed

I'm surprised the FMA movie is so high.
"Japan Probe" site article for the top 50 anime on Popo's post above, and the source for that article, from the original Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs' result announcement page.
Apparently, they took the polls for various facets of the "media art" culture in Japan, and this part of the result was for anime. It seems pretty legitimate. biggrin.gif

Personally, I'm slightly surprised to see Evangelion at the top of everything else, apparently, because of the recent "rebirth" of the series in Japan, I suppose, but I'm glad to see Hayao Mizazaki's anime movies being up there. ^^
