Come now, we don't ALL speak French. I have a friend who really hates the French. Makes me want to speak French around her just to spite her.

I do speak a tiny bit of French, actually. Used to be able to do tiny bits of nearly 10 languages, but *gasps* I'm getting old and don't remember much of anything anymore.

And I know you were playing.

Personally, I find all the Canadian stereotypes rather amusing. How we apparently all live in igloos and cities are all patrolled by Mounties on horses and whatnot . . . I remember this line a friend of mine once blurted out in class in junior high while discussing such stereotypes:
"It's fine if the States ever decide to attack us. Our igloos are bullet-proof and if worse comes to worst, we can line our polar bears up at the border."
Slashrose1010
Jan 2 2005, 04:33 PM
LOL. That's funny. I know you guys don't live in igloos. Igloos are for inuits (eskimoes). French is such a purdy language. I especially like the hot mounty stereotype, they are always beautiful chicks on horses. Nice. Anyways, does everyone there really speak like this?
Would you like to play a jolly ol' game of hocky or rugby.
What are you talking aboot? The weather is much more suited for broom pushin! (or whatevr that game is called when they sweep the ice with brooms.)
Aye. You're right. Jolly good day. Afterwards we should have some crumpets and tea.
I know I incorporated british and irish bits. lol makes for a better story.

Not even the Inuits live in igloos now. Not many anyway. French is nice, yes.
There's a hot Mountie stereotype? Never heard that one. And I've only ever seen male Mounties. And not all of them are hot, let me assure you.
Also, we say "about", not "aboot" (that appears to be a very common stereotype as well).

And you only really talk like that if you're nuts or you're trying to mock someone. And the broom pushing thing . . . I assume you're speaking of curling.
Slashrose1010
Jan 2 2005, 04:46 PM
Man... that mounty thing has crushed my dreams...

What do inuits live in then? teepees? (native american stereotype, not really but that's what they're known for) I love the "aboot". It sounds so funny. Did you ever see the SXouth Park when they showed the Canadians and they're like. "What is everyone laughing aboot?" and they laugh even louder. Good stuff
Quistis88
Jan 2 2005, 04:53 PM
They certainly don't live in igloos or teepees. I don't know what they live in now, but quite possibly normal housing or log cabins?
I wanted to be a Mountie once, just so I could wear the hat and ride the horse.

And no, I don't watch South Park. But "aboot" is rather funny, yes.

Actually, I am under the impression that this "stereotype" belongs more to the Americans, because of the quantity of high-cholesterol food consumption and whatnot. So I've been told by my old Social Studies teacher anyway.

You have to PAY for your water?! I live in the wilds of the British countryside. (the UK, if it isn't already totally clear.) It rains almost EVERY DAY here. And when it isn't raining it's foggy or sleeting. Anyway, at least it snowed on Christmas day for the first time since, like, the 60's or something.
