Flock is one file, containing over 300 files inside. Flock contains 153 Fonts, that self install, 158 brush packs for Photoshop 7 and up, self install, and over 50 additional packs for Photoshop 7 and up. Each pack, contains about 30-40 presets, all in one file, self install. We would estimate that Flock contains over 7000 individual presets, in addition to the 150 fonts. All inone file, one download, one install

I'm willing to help and I have a question of my own.
Does anyone have any techniques that work well for text in banners? I can usually manage text in avatars, but I have problems blending it when I make banners. Any help, fonts, techniques or such that you all could offer would be great =D
Nil-chan
Jan 21 2007, 08:34 PM
Well, to get text for banners and such, i normally play around with blending options on the layers. You can add drop shadow, outer glow, change transparency and add gradient overlays.... embossing and beveling.... there's also plenty of styles all over the place you can dl or buy that you can apply to text.
Hope that helps...

Whoa! We have a Photoshop help thread now! Yay! I was wondering if people can share their cell-shading techniques.
BTW, I also watched the documentary of how the FMA movie was made. There was a part wherein there were so many people on PCs using Photoshop (not exactly sure but it looked it Photoshop, they can be using Macs though) and they painted the frames for the movie really quick! 1 picture full of line art looked like it will take them only 30 seconds to color it. They were just filling up sections of the image.
They probably have tons of presets for coloring the line art and they should... because thousands of line art have to be colored.

This is a wonderful idea Tombow! I generally use Photoshop for photograph enhancement, but I would really love to learn some advanced layering techniques and colouring techniques.
Ratzen: I saw that as well, and believe that the animators were using Photoshop CS2. (Which I want with all my heart and soul, but don't have the money for)

That isn't a very difficult thing to do. Merely use the magic wand tool, expand by a pixel, right-click->fill with foreground color. And I'm sure it was a huge image, so the little corners would be filled in as well. Oh, and it would all have to be set on multiply with the lineart in the foreground. And the cel-shading wouldn't take very long either. Though 30 seconds sure is a short time. But, hey, they're professionals who have been doing many a cel-shade. And, yes, of course there are color presets. Wouldn't want Ed's hair changing color throughout. *rambles on*

Thanks to Nil-chan for answering my question XD
Now I have another one! Um. I use GIMP, so...I was trying to make an animated GIF, and it's worked perfectly fine before, but now after I select which frames I want to extract from the movie, it thinks and then...nothing happens. I don't really NEED this part of GIMP, but I would like to know what's wrong with it...it works just fine with everything else, just when I try to get the extracted frames, it doesn't do anything.

@ Ailuro
Cel-shading a single image would probably take me at least 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. LOL. Gah. Pros... XD They do it in 30 seconds...
But tracing the scanned drawing and turning it into clean line art is usually what takes me long to do.
BTW, thanks for the tips! But I don't use the fill function for cel-shading. I use a brush set to 100% opacity. Usually 20-30 pixels in size.

That's probably why it takes you so long. Trust Aily, the magic wand tool is the way to go. You can also use the pen tool to make a selection around the section you want to color and then fill it. It takes a little longer, but you don't have to worry about going back and getting the tiny nooks and cranny's. But the magic wand is a lifesaver if your trying to get done fast.

This sounds like a great Idea. =D
The only sad thing is: I don't have Photoshop. I almost don't dare asking if anyone knows where to dl it.
I really want to improve in drawing on pc, and in adding effects and such. I only got paint and it takes houres, no days to colour in my scanned pictures. T^T

Midkipblader-It's quite expensive, but you can get Photoshop
at the Adobe Store. You can also look for it slightly cheeper in places like eBay and the

Noted and understood for future reference. Though to be perfectly frank, the quote said no files are to be uploaded, and a link is not an upload. Also just in case, does this prohibition also include conversation on the topic of said materials and/or verbal explanations of how to acquire them?

Mudkipblader - For painting and drawing tips, you can ask on
Drawing technique Q&A thread, which is a sister thread of this, and in
Fanart subforum.
Oh, and, if GIMP is too vast and intimidating for now, and if you like little more simpler program, you can try Serif PhotoPlus 6.0.
It's free and you can Google it to get many sites to download it from.
It's a limited program, but it's like a little step up from Paint (but you can do much more with it than Paint) and if you are used to the Paint, this one is probably easy to learn how to use it.

Here's a quick little tutorial I wrote up for
Hyo last year on how to make GIFs.
First grab this nifty program so you can take screenshots which can be found here:
http://paul.glagla.free.fr/imagegrab_en.htm - Click on the purple button
You'll find out that there's no need to install it and you can "uninstall" it by just simply deleting it.
Now to use ImageGrab, browse and find a file you want to take screencaps of. Play it, get it to the part you want, pause it for a sec and click the little alarm clock thingie. Pull on the drop down boxes and change to a snapshot every 3 frames and click the little switch to start and end your little photoshoot. You're pictures will be saved in My Pictures by default so get them out of there and start cropping, etc etc. Do what you want to the pictures. I find it easier if you just layer them on top of each other in the way the animation is supposed to go and crop, resize from there. When you're content, switch modes over to ImageReady
If your animation palette isn't showing go to Windows animation palette. Then take your photoshop file with all the layers and create as many frames as you have on the palette and set them all to .1 seconds unless it's text which is then preferably showing for at least a second or so.
On each layer of the animation, click on the eyeballs on your layers palette to show or not show a different frame each time, don't forget to go in order! It's a stupid mistake but I did it a few times when I wasn't paying attention.
When you think you're done, preview it by clicking the play button on your animation palette. If something isn't right, fix it and view it again.
Finally, if you're content, go to file ---> Save
OPTIMIZED As. It's important it's optimized or it won't even work as a GIF image. Upload onto Photobucket or whatever you use for forums, etc.
Hope that was understandable and happy avatar making!

@
Soiltary_alchemist14 - If you want someone to make your signature, we have a
a list of sig makers on our board.. Go down the list, and check out the kind of sigs each sig makers made, and pick one sig maker whose style you like, then post on the sig shop thread of that sig maker and ask him/ner to make a sig for you. If you have some picture you want to be used for your sig, include in your post, and tell as much details on how you like it made. maybe you can read posts of other poaple making sig request, so that you know how to make request post also.
Hope you'll get a nice sig made for you!!
For some nice FMA pics you might get some inspiration by visiting our
FMA Image Gallery.
If you need to know how to add signature to your post, that's explained on
2nd post on this page ..scroll down to "How do I add pic(s) to my signature?"
And, if you get more questions, you can post on
Question thread, or since you are still a newcomer, you can go back to
Newcomers thread and ask our "welcome" hosts also.
