Even if that was REALLY offical, we still wouldn't have to worry too much about that... If Arakawa still got a lot to write about even when she reaches 20 volumes, she WILL keep on drawing instead of making an abrupt/senseless/stupid ending. From how FMA is looking right now, I highly doubt it will end within 20 volumes. (I would say it would go at least 25 )

Considering were in the Vol. 16-17 story arch, I think I speak for everyone when I guess we've still aways to go before the end. I'd speculate anywhere from 25-30 volumes total by the end of the series.

Huh, it's odd- no one seems to have mentioned in the small amount of discussion we've had how Ed's metal decomposition had no effect on that guy's automail. More than anything else, that interested me about this chapter. Is it biomechanical? Made with alchemy? Could Ed be immunized to Scar now?

Also, how about the contents of Scar's bro's research? What will it say? What will Mei use it for? She's a little young for tattoos...

And, at this point, Ed and Al are, in effect, searching for the notes. When they find Mei and Marcoh, they will also have found Scar's notes. That'll be something... the notes of an alchemic genius, a rentanjutsu specialist, a renkinjutsu specialist, and a man who has created the Philosopher's stone. We'll learn a lot about alchemy in that chapter- triply so if Hohenheim happens to drop in on their little tea party.

my guess as to why ed's destruction didn't work is because the "crocodile" is made out of different material then regular automail. if ed doesn't know what the exact materials are, his alchemy has no effect.

Anyhoo, the whole Scar-and-his-Brother's-research plotline *is* the one plotline that is really eating at me right now. I'm very eager to find out just what is written in that notebook, and what the connection between the two styles of alchemy are.

And while we are on the topic of Chapter 64, I just have to add:

Yeah, that's probably it. Some kind of metal that can function well in sub-zero weather, I guess. Wonder what kind of metal that is..

I wonder, though- Ed never needed to know what kind of metal it was before, and nor did scar. It's possible that it's treated or tempered in such a way to make it resistant to alchemy, though. That would be huge, both in the brother's study of alchemy and in Ed's automail.

Wait, I thought Scar did need to know something's composition... or was that just the anime?? Hmm..

Anyway, I'm betting the "crocodile's" auto-mail was part plastic... that shit's pretty durable, and I doubt it's healthy having metal attached to your skin in sub-degree weather (as Ed is proving for us, the little frosty-pants!)

No, I don't think it has been treated to be resistant to alchemy, for two reasons :

--- the "pure" decomposition is something absolutly unknown among the alchemist, except for Scar and Edward. There is no sigil in Amestrian alchemy to destroy, there is only sigils to destroy then construct.

--- the reaction of Buccaneer when Ed tried to destroy his automail : he said "Did you try something?", because he didn't know what Ed tried to do. If his arm has been treated against alchemy, he would have known it and he would have said "That's useless!".

Personnaly I think that there is perharps a "skin" for the automail that is absolutly no metal, and as Ed tried to destroy this "skin", it was sure that he would fail...

that was confusing..........
