Would Roy make a good Fuhrer for Amestris? He probably won't be worse than Bradley, but would it really be a step up or just trading one dictator for another? What do we know of Roy's ideals aside from "Down with war, up with mini-skirts."? It's not uncommon for political leaders to betray the revolution once they have gained power. Does Roy have what it takes to rule justly?
Beware! Episode 51 spoilers!
[spoiler] After King Bradley is killed, the leadership of the State is returned to the Assembly. Wheither the Assembly is a representive democracy or an oligarchy remains to be seen, but it appears to be run by civilians and the State is no longer a military dictatorship. Since Roy's dream seems to be that of absolute power and no longer following the misguided orders of others, it seems unlikely that Roy would work within the Assembly. For Roy's goals to come true, he would have to overthrow the Assembly and return the country to a military dictatorship. That might have been all well and good if he was just replacing Bradley, an evil homunculus, as Fuhrer, but toppling a represntational government for a dictatorship seems like a major step back for Amestris. I think Roy would make a pretty good Fuhrer. I mean, really, he actually cares about the people...And he hates the concept of war. Generally, he'd be an okay Fuhrer. Better then the last.

I think Roy would be a good Fuhrer. He's set on his goals, and knows what he wants to do...but doesnt' make irrational decisions. He knows what the people want and need. He can do things he doesn't agree with, if it means it's better for the greater mass. He can keep his cool when he needs too and stay professional about almost any situation. And he's someone people want to follow, especially once they get to know him.

Of course, he cares for the people, but other countries would certainly try to take over Amestris and, in these situations, war is impossible to avoid, and Mustang would certainly feel guilty for sending his people to war and for the lives that would be taken.
So, I say no. Amestris does not need an ubber-emo furher (see the movie), nor an ubber-cruel one either.
'Buffy and Angel had gone out before and Buffy wasn't really comfortable talking to Spike and Angel at the same time, because now Spike and Buffy had been going out for 6 months and Buffy was afraid that Angel might tell Spike that him and Buffy went out, but it turns out that Angel had told Spike that they went out, Spike was heartbroken that Buffy never told him that they went out, so Spike broke up with Buffy to get back at her for not telling him that Angel and Buffy went out.'

No. No. Noooooo.
Why? Refer to SinLuxuria's post. Amestris would get taken over quite quickly if some sort of Hitler-esque person rose up in their world. Heck it'd probably get taken over by any strong invading force. During Bradley's reign they picked fights with a few of the other countries so I don't see them easily agreeing to peace with Amestris. I admit, Roy's a pretty good leader. But Fuhrer? Sure for a while I guess but he wouldn't last long at all.
It's good to be caring but not too much in a position like that. Enemies would just use that to their advantage. I sense a major case of depression in Fuhrer Mustang's future.

I think manga Roy would make a pretty good Fuhrer. Anime Roy is a bit more unstable. I don't think he would feel particularly guilty about sending people to war. I'm sure he wouldn't like it but that doen't mean he won't do it. He's very ambitious both in the anime and manga. I do agree with Alchemic Boom and SinLuxuria about the whole depression thing though. Anime Roy, definitely not. Manga Roy, maybe.

I dunno. I think that Rpy would be good either way, but he mainly wanted to get to that postiion for the better reaasons, you know so unjust things don't happen as much. I think Roy'll probably let the assembly because he cares for people and thats what mainly pushed him to do what he was trying to do. I dunno though. -Kacy
