Thanks for the pics, Kale!
The back cover of the character song CD looks nice too, now I can't wait to listen to the songs. ^^

~ Regarding the chessboard ad in the June 11 GanGan magazine with FMA manga chapter 108 (final chapter) ~

So that ad page with the chessboard from that chapter cover, is that actually advertising that as an upcoming piece of merchandise?

If so, could anyone translate what it says?

I'd definitely buy that. In fact, I really want it. It's the only piece of anime or manga merchandise I really want.

It looks awesome and would be an awesome reminder of everyone in the series and how amazing it was.

It says on that page that the item is still in production, but it is estimated to be for sale at 9800 yen (that's about $108 USD). There will be a total of 36 chess pieces, each about 2~4 cm tall, and they are made of polyvinyl chloride (aka plastic). The chess board will be made of paper, about 27x27cm. They estimate that they will have this for pre-order on August 12. The expected shipping date is unknown yet. Please check out GanGan September issue to find more info about this!

Please read my (AA battery) post #6 to read more info regarding purchasing this super-expensive chess board.

Yeah I saw that too. It looks awesome, would even make me want to learn chess. I bet it is something special only available to Japanese residents though.

Perhaps it may be sold at Conventions world wide? That'd be amazing. Ooooh. I really really want the Ed&Al clock...it'd be so neat to have!

That clock should be the special item with this shounen gangan. I notice it is sold out on Amazon Japan but perhaps you can still find a copy somewhere else.

Yep, as a chess fan, I definitely need to own that piece of awesomeness. Might be a tad difficult to remember what characters represent the different chess pieces though huh.gif .

It is a real merchandise for sale later.

But... it's gonna be a big pain-in-the-butt (not to mention expensive). If anyone was in LJ fm_alchemist, you probably have seen the post I made about the Ed & Al mp3 player back in late-May... if you want to get that chess board, you will likely have to go through the same process. Which is something like this:

- Purchase GanGan September issue [costs money]
- Obtain the order form within
- Hire someone in Japan to buy it for you [costs money]
- Wait a few months for it to arrive in Japan [costs domestic shipping]
- Wait for that someone in Japan to ship it to you [costs international shipping]

Note that the above is my guess, because that's what I had to go through with ordering the Ed & Al mp3 player, this is likely what you have to go through if you want to order that chess board, as that's what GanGan does with all those Japan mail-order-only special merchandises. The special merchandise before the Ed & Al mp3 player (and plushies and Roy umbrella and Riza t-shirt and Homunculi wrist band) was a Alphonse cell phone charger (which probably isn't compatible with phones outside Japan...). They also had a FMA headphone and wallet or something like that a few months back... but they were lucky draw items so limited at 100 or something like that =___=

Anyhow, on to the chess board...

Please check out GanGan September issue to find more info about this!

... expect to spend roughly $150 USD if you want to get this. If you are really gonna hire someone to buy this, make sure you understand every detail related to ordering (ie, ask a friend who knows Japanese to read the order form for you.)

PS. http://community.livejournal.com/fm_alchemist/6840761.html <--- LJ member-locked entry I made about the Ed & Al mp3 player last month for anyone interested in reading.

That's highly unlikely. Japan is anti-social and likes to keep its goodies to itself. Well most of the time anyway. =P

That's easy. Go buy yourself a copy of GanGan July. The clock comes with it.

You are very likely to be correct.

Or try out option two: tap the secondary market and contract to buy one on Yahoo! Japan. Possibly a more pricy approach, but far less complex.

It's actually not that complicated... everyone (including the Japanese) will have to buy the GanGan to get the order form anyway, and they all pay the domestic shipping and postal transfer fees...

The only extra bit for us is finding a middleman and paying him to do the job, and then pay him to ship it to me, that's all. =P

Though I highly doubt I'm gonna spend $130+ on 36 pieces of plastic and a piece of cardboard... At least the Ed & Al mp3 player I bought is practical and I can use it anywhere...

People do sell those goodies on Yahoo! auction Japan, but again, you need to go through a middleman to bid there, so... it's still some work and since most middleman charge you 10% + handling charge (not to mention bid war happens), it's not gonna be worth it.

The service I use (the cheapest that I could find) charges 250 + 12.5%. That of course is in addition to the actual cost of the item, domestic shipping, international reshipping, and taxes if applicable.

Wow, this is going quite off-topic from FMA manga content discussions. tongue.gif (Although, I love the chess piece also and hence the discussion is quite interesting! ^^)

Hence, we'll be moving this to "FMA merchandise" discussion thread later.
(Mods, if I don't get around to it, please move this thread there. ^^)

Meantime, please feel free to continue this discussion here. smile.gif

ETA: Thank you, Chiyo! ^^

what I'm thinking rite now, no more pocket watch? I wish they'll make one, with much muh more quality and more appropriate design and SIZE. also, maybe it's going to be good if they sell some limited editions made from real metal or such :3

I found this just two days ago from our local anime convention:

I think I saw something like this on this thread some pages ago, but Al had different expression on those images.

He's so cute happy.gif I also saw those talking chibi figurines and Brotherhood pillows in the convention, but they were tad overpriced so I didn't buy any.
