Same here.

I haven't thought about it since December when I got to see the whole series. I've been re-watching it on Anime Unleashed. Maybe that will answer my questions that the poorly subed version I saw left.
They can't be the same person. Sophia is only like 19 and Ures was around the same age as Alex. Unless she's some kind of reincarnation, I don't see them being the same person. But I still don't know what Marius meant by that.
My theory is that Alex's girlfriend wasn't actually killed, but instead found somewhere else, and had lost her memory. Maybe the princess actually died or something and Alex's girlfriend looked a lot like her so...And maybe they just made up her age *shrugs* It's a half-baked theory tongue.gif

Yes! Re-watch it with me!

I loathe Delphine mad.gif She's so freakin' evil! But I have to admit, Alex looked pretty hot with his shirt half buttoned down when he was chained by vines up there wub.gif Still, she tortured him! I won't forgive her for that sleep.gif

I JUST came to finish this interesting series. I'm not too late am I?

Cut and past power activate!
Felt interested in purchasing this series, so I watched it beforehand. Good show. A bittersweet ending though. Of course, we can't have a happy ending all the time, it's not realistic! But that doesn't mean I have to sit down and accept a sadder ending...

Anyway, first my thoughts:

I thought it was sad (or should I say, bad?) how they just rushed Principal Dio Eraclea's demise at the end of the series. Granted, he and his attendant Lucciola were... strange... to say the least. But they were not bad people by any means. Heck, their personalities were likable near the end, before his sister wiped Dio's mind, which brings us to my next thought.

The Guild has a powerful monopoly over the world by essentially providing flight... Their technology is leaps and bounds beyond the surface world... Yet they rely on such terrible, terrible leadership. Seriously, I have seen my share of insane villains, but the vaunted Maestro Delphine Eraclea has to take a special spot with her profound mania and sheer lack of reason. With some careful management the Guild could both rule and peacefully guide the rest of the world, but what does Delphine do instead? End up sacrificing the entire Guild over the frivolous pursuit of the Exile. The throwaway attitude that she maintains towards her own people makes me wonder how the Guild didn't collapse years ago (then again, there used to be FOUR Guild houses...).

In addition, if Dio and Lucciola were any indication, the youths of the Guild, eccentric as they were, proved to be both talented and extremely intelligent. What does Delphine do with these gifted individuals? Throw their lives away in a bloody battle royale for the title of Maestro of course! And to wipe the personality of her own little brother is downright criminal...

Now my questions...

-Just what was the Exile? Did it end up as "part of the scenery" at the end of the series?

-Was it the mere presence of the inactive Exile that was causing the Grand Stream and the abnormal weather plaguing the planet?

-What was the connection of the little girl with the Exile? I don't seem to have caught the explanation.

-Why did ships choose to traverse the Stream? It's obviously dangerous, yet ships still travel this route. Is it a faster means of travel?

- Alex Rou has a vendetta against Delphine because in his catastrophic vanship flight, he lost his love in a collision with what appears to be the Exile.

In the collision, Alex sees the Maestro in what seems to be the Exile. How could this be? I thought at this time the Guild didn't have control over the relic. Or did Alex and the gang run into a Guild ship? Didn't really look like one to me.

I agree with your opinion, especially about Dio and Luciola...

SPOILER ALERT~ (I'd put a big spoiler thing up, but then it'd be hard to answer your questions directly. Not many people who haven't finished the series would be on this thread anyway...)

I'm not sure about the part of the scenery thing myself, but Exile was some sort of ship from another world methinks.

Yes. I believe that's what they said anyway.

I'm not sure about this either. So much seemed rushed and unclear at the end...But I would guess that Al was a descendent of those alien people who arrived on Exile.

They did it when they needed to get between Disith and Anotorary.

I'm not really sure which part you're talking about...

This series has soooooo many parallels with the original Xenogears game, it's downright scary.

Al is the key to Exile. I'm guessing it wouldn't have worked with anyone but her.

People are retarded and do retarded things sometimes. It might have something to do with getting supplies in other lands, since there always seemed to be a water shortage in Prestor.

If Dio just sat out at the end, he wouldn't have suffered such a strange and confused end...

As for my questions, I have just received some answers from the forum that I posted it originally.

SPOILERS DARN YOU!

Turns out that the world that the story is set in, is not circular like most planets. Instead, it is hourglass in shape, and the Grand Stream and the Exile is set in the middle. Hence that's why ships need to cross it when they go from one country to the next... Strange, but it would explain the hourglass imagery in the show.

The person also wrote that the world of Last Exile can be seen as an artificial colony, and the malfunctioning of the Exile was what cause the abnormal temperatures (too much water on one side, too little on the other).

As for my earlier question about Alex. Remember how he was part of a two-ship Vanship mission to deliver a letter to end the war? In the Grand Stream, they collide with something (the Exile?), and the main characters' fathers are lost. Alex loses his first love in the collision, and just before fading out, he sees a young Delphine looking at him from a ship.
