QUOTE(Sensenic @ Oct 31 2005, 04:30 PM)

"Recently", they added this new possibility into the katakana alphabet to represent the syllables "va", "vi", "vu", "ve", and "vo", precisely to distinguish them from "ba", "bi", etc.
And, guess what? "Ishval", in the original katakana, is written specifically with the "va" character. So I'll accept "Ishval", "Ishvaru", "Ishvar"... but not "Ishbal" etc. I disagree completely.

new katakana? can someone send me a pic of these new katakana (and any other new hiragana/katakana there are)...please? i'm trying to learn japanese...i guess the language just won't slow down for me LoL

Okay, this is what they use...

Base character: U (ウ)

Add the apostrope mark (I can't remember what it's called) to get V. It's a compund letter.
VU = ヴ
VA = ヴァ
VI = ヴィ
etc. (just change the small letter to the corresponding vowel)

Meanwhile, the B line is a full 5 characters list.
BA = バ
BI = ビ
BU = ブ
BE = ベ
BO = ボ

Hence, イシヴァール = Ishvar/Ishval and NOT Ishbal.
Hope that helps and doesn't confuse people ^ ^

Ah, thank you for showing those characters. I thought it was some Kanji in a Katakana name. (Which, they don't do so I was highly confused).

well, the confusion was caused by the ANIME being released in US FIRST, with the MANGA being released in US AFTER. XD
