i really don't apperciate the job they did in the manga.they changed the entire line of events completely.
Example, Volume 1 hughs was not on the train.and what not.
Just goes to show you what happens when they relese they anime first (they did that with the wolf's rain manga too mad.gif

Actually... the manga was written first. It's been going since 2001. The anime was realeased... when? 2003, 2004?

BONES changed that for the anime, not the other way around.

Actually, they didn't. It can be either Ishvar or Ishbal.

V sounds like B in Japanese because the Japanese can not say the letter V properly, so it ends up as B.

Constinants (besides the letter/sound of N) in Japanese are at their mercy. Really, they are.

Ās a matter of fact, no it doesn't. And this one spelling is the only one that really bothers me... I don't care if it's "Resembool", "Rizenburu" or "Liesenburg" because they'd all have similar katakana transcriptions...

But not Ishbal.

"Recently", they added this new possibility into the katakana alphabet to represent the syllables "va", "vi", "vu", "ve", and "vo", precisely to distinguish them from "ba", "bi", etc.
And, guess what? "Ishval", in the original katakana, is written specifically with the "va" character. So I'll accept "Ishval", "Ishvaru", "Ishvar"... but not "Ishbal" etc. I disagree completely.

Ah... how nostalgic, this post smells of n00b everywhere. Please don't take it offenseively, it's just that it happened the same to me, but then I learned the truth:

FMA, the manga, is the original work. The anime team was the one who added the changes, who added Hughes in the train, and who changed completely the story. Believe me, my friend: even if it does disappoint you at first, do read the manga and forget about what you've seen in the anime. It'll do you good.

I know that they've added 'vo, va, vi,' etc into their katakana, but what I mean is 'pronouciation-wise' they are unable (or the majority of the population) to pronouce the sound of the letter 'v' and instead say 'b'.

That's why the difference in the Anime to the manga come into play.

That's why in the Japanese version, and the dub, they say Ishbal.
But in the manga it's "Ishuvaaru," not "Ishubaaru." So it's with a V. The perfect guides actually spells it as Ishval, and I think Arakawa personally wrote those (though it may have just been some Gangan staff), so that's how I spell it.

But the point of the topic was that I was disappointed that VIZ did such an amaturish thing as changing a name MID-SERIES.
This also happened with Pip's last name in Hellsing. >_<

Sorry but that one guy complaining that the manga was altered by Viz because it didn't follow the manga just cracks me up laugh.gif

I'll second that. LOL. The anime came after the manga.

Personally, either way is fine with me, and if they use it interchangeably, I can still follow it.

"Ishbaal" might be intentional - itt could be considered a reference to the Biblical deity Baal, whose priests faced off against Elijah (and notably lost).

@Haldir of Lorien come on man you must've started reading the manga after you've seen the anime. Remember Manga/Anime two completely different storylines.
