Has anybody mentioned Hohenheim's name difference? It's Von Hohenheim in the manga (I don't think he has any other surname XD), Elric being Trisha's family name, whereas in the anime we see "Hohenheim Elric" written on an envelope, though he's later refferred to as "Hohenheim of Light" (is "Of the Light" his name or alchemist title?) And by the way, in contrast to the manga, where the boys are Hoho's flesh and blood, in the anime how could Ed and Al be Hoho's biological children when the body that provided the genetical material was a stolen one?

Actually, only "Father's" body was a stolen one. Hohenheim already had a body unlike the homonculus. I believe "Of the Light" was his title. It referred to the type of alchemy he used.

Someone mentioned the fact that there's no parallel world in the manga. We don't know that just yet. Remember the fact that we have no idea where the original Homonculus from chapter 74 came from, and the fact that he produced Paracelsus' lengthy real name on the spot makes me think he knew it from somewhere esle, as opposed to having invented it. Nevertheless, this is still only a hypothesis, and one that may NEVER be confrimed or infirmed on top of that. One last thing: the anime producers DID, asa far as I know, find out the ending and rough future plotline of the manga from Arakawa(imagine, there are other people in the world except Arakawa who know the ending...), who explicitly asked them to alter the story so as not to spoil the excitement of the manga. And it's not impossible that the parallel universe, along with other elements mentioned above, was borrowed from the manga and adapted to the anime storyline.

I just hope it doesn't end like the anime. I don't think she would do that because it would sour the readers. I wouldn't be surprised if another universe was brought into the story but done differently than the anime.

Wait, I think you're confusing anime with manga here. *chap 75 and ep 50-1 spoilers*

In the manga, Hoho does preserve his original body throughout the timeline, with Father "stealing" (at least as far as character design is concerned laugh.gif) a body. But I was talking about the anime, where there is no "Father" and Hoho and Dante gain immortality by "body-jumping" (or whatever you want to call it), inhabiting bodies belonging to people they kill, and then abandonning them when age or illness makes the bodies undesirable. Dante actually has a flashback in one of the final episodes, where we see her using the PS to trap hoho's soul in the body of a poor servant/bystander. Did I get anything wrong?

Actually he doesn't, his body is remade into a Philosopher's Stone that looks exactly the same as his original body, he has the same body as Father does.

You're right with the anime, though since Trisha loved that body, and that's the body he fathered the Elric's with, I'd suppose he'd consider that body his true body, especially since he's very happy to be in our world, able to die in the body Trisha loved.

~ Where To Start Buying The Fma Manga For My Gf ? Please Help! ~

Hi everyone, I am new here but a huge FMA fan. I've watched through the whole anime with my gf and loved it. AWESOME.

I would like to get here the FMA manga's for XMAS but I have no clue were to start.

I'd like to know what manga #'s to buy, I want to get her the point where the anime ending happened, and the manga split off towards an alternate ending.

Could someone please let me know what manga is the point right after the anime ending. Basically which one she should start reading if she has only seen the anime ending, and not read the manga at all. She doesnt want to re-read anything shes already seen(I know manga is different but still), she'd like to pick up right where the story goes in a new direction.

Also any site you recommend to buy the manga at?

I recommend that you guys/gals check out a little known anime called Kino's Journey if you haven't see it. Great stuff.

I appreciate any feedback you could give to a manga N00B. Thank you!

I'd suggest reading the whole thing from the start seeing as how it's quite different and some of the details are different at the beginning.
But I guess the part where the manga breaks away from the manga would be around volumes 7/8. From then on, it heads a completely different direction.

A good place to buy it would probably be amazon.com.

Barnes and Nobel, or what ever that American book shop is. From what I've been told they have a good range of manga.
Amazon is also good although you may be pushing it for delivery time.

It's not difficult at all to find manga, especially for such a popular series. For future reference, this is not the proper forum to ask such questions. I'm moving it to the FMA Manga section and closing it, seeing as you've already gotten sufficient answers.

I'm fairly certain the general consensus is that the whole manga should be read, considering that there are a lot of small details that are different from the very beginning.

Oh, this should be fun to do. Let's see if I can make a list of what is different from the anime homunculi and the manga ones.

-Well first the method of creation is different, in the anime homunculi come from fail human transmutation. In the manga, Father is the only one that creates homunculi. Also Father is a homunculus! There method is not fully known other than the two human based homunculi. Which were created by putting a true Philosopher's stone into a living human.

-In the anime homunculi survive by ingesting fake PS while in the manga they have a real one as a heart and thus don't require fake ones.

-King Bradley may be a homunculus in both series, however in the anime he is Pride and Wrath in the manga.

-Reversely Pride and Wrath are both child shaped homunculi, Wrath in the anime is the fail rebirth of Izumi's child and Pride is father's first homunculus and is Selim Bradley.

-Sloth is very different from the anime to manga, in the anime she is Ed's failed rebirth of his mother and in the manga Sloth is the 5th homunculus created by father which is a large muscular man.

-All the homunculi, besides the bald one(and forgot father since he stole Hoho's appearance), have black hair and black ouroborus in the manga. While the ones in the anime have different colored hair, some changed from the manga (like Envy has green hair and Greed brown) and their ouroborus is red.

-Their true forms are also different. Lust never showed hers in either series. Nor did most. But all the same ones (Envy, Greed, Gluttony) showed them in both series. While Greed's was the same, Envy true from is a strange fetus thing apparently in the manga whiles Hoho's son in the anime. Gluttony's true form is also different, being an enormous white creature in the anime whiles being the a false gate of truth in the manga.

and that's about all I can think of, if anyone seen anything else that's notable tell me and I'll keep editing the post until its the more comprehensive on this thread of the differences between them.

Beside, that's not entirely true. There is another "plan of existence" in FMA already : Glutonny's stomach. There is no people, nobody can leave in it and it seems endless, but still it's a "parallele world". You can only enter in it through a "gate" and it's not connected to the events of the other world...

Very true! And then there's also the place where the Doors of Truth lie...same case as with Gluttony's stomach.

~ Question about anime-Wrath equivalent (if any) in manga ~

Well my brother and I have watched the entire FMA anime series and Wrath became my brother's favorite character. Now that I'm started reading the manga my brother wants to know...
Does Wrath (as Izumi's son) come into the manga at some point?

There is a Wrath in the manga, but he's not Izumi son, nor is he child-like in appearance. There are no child-like homunculi in the manga, aside from one, and he's not like anime!Wrath, either.

Manga!Wrath is actually King Bradly (the anime's Pride).

Nope he hasn't show up in the manga so far, and I am guessing we aren't going to see him, cuase there is another "wrath" in his place.

So sorry, he was kindof cool, but there are alot cooler characters in the manga.
