Another awesome chapter!

When I read the first part of the chapter with Roy and Riza at Mr. Hawkeye’s grave and Riza mentions that she doesn't know any of her family, it’s quite saddening because it’s like she’s alone and maybe to a certain degree may feel quite lost. The way she says that she can get by somehow is quite heart wrenching. I can imagine that it can be really difficult not knowing what your next step is going to be. But it's lovely that even though Roy has joined the military, is still going to be there when Riza needs him.

I just love the way that Roy smiles when he tells Riza he will be happy if he can help the country; it’s so gentle. And Riza’s smile equals that gentleness when she tells him that it’s a wonderful dream. I just love that in these first few chapters of volume 15, it is clearly shown how and why Roy and Riza have entrusted their backs to one another and really does help show how deep their bond actually is.

What I also love is, on that particular double page (pages 88-9), it has Roy and Riza talking of dreams, with their soft smiles on one page, whereas the page next to it is such a stark contrast, with the words “how could we have fallen this low?” with what looks like guilt-ridden and confused expressions etched onto their faces.

I also think the bit with Armstrong shows well just how ‘expendable’ alchemists are considered to be in the eyes of the military; these are the humans that can simply be ‘replaced’ like a faulty machine. They are seen as mere weapons, after all. Not only that, but as one of the soldiers pointed out, it’s like all of the men in general are expendable and it seems to me like they are willing to lose however many men necessary.

The bit with the mentions of even children being caught up in the war and being injured is also really terrible, and it really is heart-breaking when Sarah Rockbell is trying to save a life of a child while yelling “I won’t let you die...I have a daughter about the same age”. And her facial expression just shows the horror of the situation. Then the very next panel is showing Winry looking so scared. Which to me just shows how innocent and vulnerable children really are. And this shows further the same of infant casualties, especially in the battlefield.

There’s such an amazing flurry of thought and emotion in this chapter from the characters concerned; it’s amazing. You can really see the confliction between them, as talk of justification of the war and talks of God are mentioned throughout. It’s all really fast paced and busy and you really get a sense of...well, war and conflict.
