Here's the page from the Guidebook. The text above Grumman says that he's Riza's grandfather on her mother's side.

^ Thank you, Michiyo-.... and... Aw....that. Xd Gahaha, somehow I thought hawkflame was looking for some entry about "Grumman trying to marry Riza and Roy, as Grumman is Riza's Grandpa, and Roy declining it" in the Guidebook. Xd I know "Grumman tries to marry Riza to Roy" part is in Vol. 6, chapter 25, but from hawkflame's post I thought someone was saying that that part is in Guidebook also. ^^

If "Riza being Grumman's granddaughter" part was the only concern, heck we posted that Guidebook page several times, and I could have just re-directed the OP to one of these posts. tongue.gif

Anyway, thank you, Michiyo- ( you're just awesome ^^ ) and yes, that's the page, and the page with translation is on my post/& Michiyo-'s post here.
(Yes, Michiyo- helped there also. ^^) biggrin.gif

Well, Mustang didn't actually reject Grumman's proposal, nor did he accepted it, or anything. Even more so not true that Grumman might be actually trying to 'hook them up', since he only seems to be interested in making 'connections' with a possible future Fürher.
Also regarding that, although it is stated and clear that Grumman is indeed Riza's grandfather, it doesn't seem like either her or even Mustang know that: Riza states she's not "familiar with any relatives" in chapter 60 or the manga and the way she talks about General Grumman seems to pass that she's unaware he's her mother's father.
Equally, there's not indication that Roy knew Grumman was talking about Riza when he posed that "proposal".
Overall it seemed more of a joke than anything.

So, yes, he's her grandfather, mother side, but the rest of that quote you put is very questionable in terms of what the manga states.

What exactly is that tattoo on Riza's back, and where did it come from? I (accidentally) read the manga out of order, and I feel like I missed something.

^ I agree, and that was my impression of the scene as well.. that Roy brushed aside/deflected the idea of, & Grumman's proposal of, "getting him married," but he has not specifically rejected anything about Riza. That's why I thought that if what hawkflame posted were indeed in the Guidebook, then that would have been another big scoop we haven't learned yet. But, I think this article/entry is another case of someone/some site intentionally or unintentionally spreading some more misleading information on FMA, in this case, stating some canon fact accompanied with some not-so-true interpretation/summary of what happened in the chapter.

--------------------------

As I always say, if you read/hear some new/strange/too-good-to-be-true/etc.etc news/suff on FMA somewhere, if possible, please ask for the SOURCE, SOURCE, SOURCE at the person/site you read/heard it from, and/or start that "trace the source till you get to the ORIGINAL source" process, and if the person posted/told-you-the-stuff can not/will not tell you the source, then regard that one as a FAN-MADE-fantasy/fanon till/unless proven otherwise. smile.gif

---------------------------

Anyway, if the OP only wanted to find out the validity of the part in bold in the posted quote, about "Grumman is Riza's grand daughter," then yes, that part is indeed in the Guidebook, and hence we consider that as a canon fact. ... Question answered? ^^

I'll keep this thread here for a little longer, just in case someone indeed would find any Guidebook entry on "Grumman proposing Riza/Roy marriage" we hadn't known existed, then move the posts to FMA Character Q&A thread.

I presume you're talking about the shot of her back at the end of chapter 57 in manga vol. 14. It hadn't been explained yet up to that point, so you didn't miss anything.

@Deadbeat007 - It's has something to do with flame alchemy; it may be the final condensed theory of flame alchemy.
(It's a big story spoiler. Highlight to read the spoiler only if you'd like to know ahead of your FMA manga reading. smile.gif)

Also, if you'd like, you can observe the full reconstruction of Riza's tattoo here: angelalegna's drawing/reconstruction of the full tattoo, on DeviantArt (after getting on the DivArt page, click on the pic to see the LARGE version of the full drawing. smile.gif )

And, a (possible) explanation/meaning of the tattoo details here: angelalegna's article explaining Riza's tattoo in detail-by-detail, on LiveJournal.

No prob. Glad to be of help. smile.gif

Moving the thread along, I noticed in the first anime, Archer ended up with, among other things, an automail eye. I've also seen similar things in Rush Valley. Automail limbs I can understand, since they respond to muscle impulses in the stump, but how would an automail eye work? Among other things, camera technology in the world of Fullmetal seems to have only just broken into color photography. Even in present day, we've only just got a sort of rough prototype for a cybernetic eye. So how's it work here? Do these eyes run on the rule of cool, or are they basically eyepatches for automail nerds? Thoughts?

Um, didn't know where to post this, but did Roy see the truth, like this? Arakawa didn't draw it, right? Does this mean anything? Roy still haven't tried to use alchemy (I've read ch103), right? So we don't know if he can do it without transmutation circles. I just thought that Arakawa didn't draw it, so maybe it didn't happen, 'cause Roy's a special case...I'm not quite sure what that means, though... The Truth taking a payment or nothing, hm...What do you think?

About the automail eye, I think they should be able to put a camera-like devise as a retina that could sent some information to the optic nerve, as they connect automail-limbs with flesh nerves. Maybe not perfect colour with 3D-vision and all, but light and shaddow...

I think he did see it. Transmutation without circles is a trace afterward, that's how homunculi recognize the ones who went through the gate, so it's probably the rule - you open the gate, see Truth, pay your toll. Roy paid the prize for going through the gate so he must've seen it. Edward saw it the second time he went through the gate when he wasn't even trying. Arakawa didn't draw it because there's no need to now. Everybody knows what happens already. biggrin.gif

Actually, she may have left out the Gate sequence because it will be important. It seems that one can "bargain" with the Truth, at least to some extent ("GIVE ME BACK MY BROTHER!") and so we don't know what Roy has gained. I get the feeling that this will become important.

QUOTE (SneakyRuler @ Jan 12 2010, 01:11 PM) *
Edward saw it the second time he went through the gate when he wasn't even trying.

Really? When he was fleeing from Gluttony's stomache? *checking the manga* Yeah, there was some ribbon-like stuff, you're right smile.gif
But that's strange, 'cause the first time he gets in front of the Gate, see Truth (the "person") "blah blah I'm the universe, I'm you", then he goes inside the Gate and sees the truth and thereby learn alchemy without circles...But, then again, when he escapes from Gluttony, we don't see what/if he sees anything when he is taken by the Gate and is spitten out of Gluttony.

QUOTE (Katya Martin)
("GIVE ME BACK MY BROTHER!")

Wasn't Al's soul inside the failed mother-transmutation? He didn't die and that's why Ed where even able to affix his soul to the armor...

Gah! I'm just overanalyzing, and my memory is crap as well, so I'll just wait and see... happy.gif

A have a question: How many square meters approximately do you think Mustang can cover with his fire blast? I doubt he can cover a whole city, a whole street perhaps.
