Maxey really improved in this episode! I liked that Al spoke more than just a few lines in this episode. He actually had a long conversation with Rose on the roof, and for me it really showed what Maxey was capable of. And I now love her.

Colleen did well as Rose too. I kept thinking about how she'll do on episode 19 and I think she'll do Jussssst fine. I just wish she wouldn't make Riza sound so deep. If she even took it just a tone higher with Hawkeye i would like it more.

Laura as Lust was perfect as always. I loved hearing her at the end of the episode.

AND we got a "can I eat him" line from Gluttony. I thought his voice sounded better, less raspy, than the first anime.

of course Vic did good. I don't really have any complaints at all for him.

Everyone who was in this part of the first dub sounded exactly the same as they did in this episode.

Vic's Ed is the same, so if you liked him then, he did a good job. I think he's pretty awful, however, so he didn't for me.

Cornello sounds about the same. So does Rose. So does Laura Bailey's Lust.

I can still barely hear Maxey Whitehead's Alphonse.

No major messes in this episode.

But next week is the Tucker incident, meaning Brina Palencia's Nina. Ugh.

hmm. watched it.
what can i say is wow great episode. comparing the episode 3's ed with eps 46's ed. WOW they're SOOO different. O.O
anyway, for the dub. they all sound the same. vic as ed is horrible as usual i think =w= the laugh after cornello's 'speech' is a kinda awkward. maxey's al, still don't like it, but it improved anyway. don't like rose's voice. the voice is off, here and there. lust is so so. still unsexy. gluttony is okay.

Goodbye, Fullmetal Alchemist. Thanks for the memories.

Did anyone else notice that the stream of this on Adult Swim Video includes the next episode preview? So now if you can access that site, you can hear the narrator in English and try to guess which one of the "Additional Voices" he might be. Doesn't sound like the sort of voice they'd re-use for Father, but I could be surprised.

I believe that's Kent Williams. And I hope he's not gonna voice Father. Kent did Majahal(sp?) in the first series.

Everyone else is doing fine. Not annoyed with anyone's voice yet. Al's VA I think will progress ok. Just think it's dumb to make a girl voice someone Al's age. dry.gif

Not necessarily... I mean it seems to work just fine in the original Japanese. And there are some english voice actors that can pull it off. The woman who does Bart Simpson (never mind half of the boy characters on that show) does not sound like a little girl.... Al unfortunately does though sad.gif

Ah, funny you should mention that. I was doing side-by-side comparisons of early episodes last week, and I noticed that Majihal had a much deeper voice in the Japanese version. Maybe Funimation is going to put a different spin on Father's voice too.

Al is also more of a little girl than most of the girl's in the series, remember. In the Japanese, his voice is around the same range. Either way, Al will be played by a girl to (most likely) enforce the fact that he has some effeminate qualities. Most boys in anime (done by FUNI at least) are played by women. They were lucky enough to find a 13 year old boy when they did season 1, but he STILL sounded like a chick then, until they got much later into the series, around the movie. Also, Maxey sounds similar enough to Aaron. A boy with a more Ed-ish voice would just be awkward to hear, for those of us who watched season one.

Mmhmm. *nod-nod* I totally agree with that. If Al had a more Ed-ish voice, then I think that it would take away some of the innocence surrounding Al's persona. Al sort of acts as Ed's counterpart....and he IS the younger of the two so, yeah. At least you could actually hear him this time XDXD. ....and, yeah....I'm really not looking forward to Nina....her last dub voice was God-Awful, I mean, Elysia sounded older than her!

I think Maxey improved alot in this episode... not as good as Aaron, but still good. Not looking forward to Nina's voice though...

Well, surprisingly, episode 4's dub wasn't too bad. Probably the best episode of the dub.

Nina Tucker's voice is still horribly annoying and not cute in the slightest, but much better than in the first series when I was actually looking forward to her exit. Chuck Huber's Shou Tucker is better than before, being really menacing. Maybe he amped it up because this time he only got to be in a single episode. Anyway, great.

The new Scar voice is... hm. Well, there's not a lot to it. He seems to have problems really putting energy into his performance. Even Dameon Clarke's Scar, which I thought sounded pretty generic, at least had some effort put in. This guy seems like he's not really that interested in the role. But, this was his first episode, he may improve.

Willingham's new approach to Roy is beginning to work. Whatever he's doing finally settled in. It's definitely different than his Roy for the first series.

Vic is... still the same Edward. I think Maxey Whitehead's Alphonse has been making strides, though, especially in the scenes where he's playing with Nina or towards the end.

I noticed Maria Ross's VA has returned, and I always enjoyed her performance. I'm glad she's returned.

I'm sorry penguintruth, but somebody has got to say it. Why do you insist on reiterating? You pretty much say the same thing exact same thing every single time a new dubbed episode comes on. Why do you even bother watching the dub if you hate it so much? Forgive me, I'm not trying to start argument. These are honest questions. I just want to know why somebody would sit and torture themselves by watching a dub they dislike and constantly post it so. Do you do it just for the sake of coming on here and ranting about how much you hate Vic, etc...? I really am curious...

Wow, so much of the voice work in episode 4 sounded very low-key tonight. It's as if everyone burned off their energy from the manic episode 3.

I can say the same for a lot of the rest of you. Why bother posting if it's the same "DERP, HE WAS GREAT!" comments?

Except I don't repeat that much. If you actually pay attention, I've detailed why I like or dislike a voice when challenged on it, and I don't always touch on all the same things. But maybe actually reading what I say takes more effort than pretending you have.

I'm giving the dub a chance, just like I did with the first one. I'm not under an obligation to be positive about every effing thing.

Anyways, I just finished up episode 4.

Maxey is improving more and more. But, I did cringe (for the first time mind you) when he walked into Tuckers house and were yelling his name trying to find him. She sounded very girly. But other parts of this episode were so Al-ish boy sounding that I completely forgot about maxey being a woman, and listened to it as Alphonse talking. Good. smile.gif

Scar, I love my shmecksey man, and I was very eager to hear his voice. So i'll say the new VA didn't dissapoint. So much better than the previous Scar. Knowing the stuff he'll be acting out later, this voice is just so much more fitting. This was his Scar debut and he'll only improve on it.

Nina was less whiny, and I breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn't baby talk like in the first anime.

Hughes is sounding perfect, as well as Armstrong.

Riza sounded less manly. And I was very happy to hear that.

Vic did pretty good. I liked that he didn't do his "whispering voice of angst and whispers." and he did good throwing in the right emotions at the appropriate times.

Wow...bite my 'effing' head off just a little more why don't you? I also really don't appreciate being insulted, thank you. I was just asking a simple question. There's a difference between people praising the hard work that these voice actors do than there is from going in and bitching about how horrible they do, over and over and over again. We already know you hate Vic, so the question is why do you insist on repeating it so? But I suppose I stepped into forbidden territory considering the obvious in the tone of your post as well you masking the attempt at insulting me. Don't treat me like I'm stupid because I'm not. I was just asking you a couple of questions because I don't understand your way of thinking. Evidently that makes me 'effortless'. Anyway, I'm out. Whatever. *shrugs*
