QUOTE (penguintruth @ Jun 28 2009, 03:23 AM) *
One of the things that irked me is that they cut short the first real scene of Alphonse's independence in FMA, when he takes on the chimera lackies of Greed on his own. Even though he eventually gets taken captive, it shows that he's capable of handling himself. In this episode, they cut it so short, it hardly needed to be there at all. I mean, isn't that what everyone was looking forward to, an Alphonse who was more active? Not to mention they cut out a lot of the humor, like Greed and the gang thinking they upset Alphonse (misinterpreting something he said as saying his brother died), and one of the gang using a lighter to try to hyptnotize him.

Don't worry I was extremely irked by this. I was really looking forward to Al being awesome here but the only cool Al scene they had was him kicking the dog Chimera. The rest was completely cut. No Sig/Armstrong friendship scene either (unless they somehow add that in the next episode since we see Armstrong in the preview. How the hell is Bradley & Armstrong going to get there since Ed didn't go to Southern Headquarters though?)

I also didn't like how they had Izumi actually lay a punch on Greed. Way to miss the point.

The only scene they did well in the 2nd part of the episode was Ed's corny speech about not making deals with villains. But overall I was disappointed.

And Penguintruth I do agree with you on what is the point of Mason now. But Yoki at least does have more of part in the manga than Mason. If they had dropped him I would have been pissed. Even though I do think his introduction was done poorly.

Well, yes, Yoki does become a relatively regular character in the story later on, what I meant was that as an introduction for the character, it was pretty ill planned. I'm hoping he at least flashes back to his fall from grace somehow, even if it's in passing. A funny thing would be if he was describing it and nobody was paying attention.

Watched the raw. Overall I was disappointed with this episode, too. So many scenes from the manga were left out. Ed didn't go to the Southern HQ, so no meeting with Armstrong and Bradley. Then why will they come to Dublith later?
Al's awesome fight with the chimeras was shortened. They also cut the "marry my granddaughter" scene. Too bad, I really wanted to see that.
I don't understand why those scenes were left out. They weren't in the 1st series, so I thought we'll see those in Brotherhood.

I didn't like that they changed a lot of scenes, too. Why did Izumi come after Ed? And how did Ed know where's Al?

Now to write something positive: I liked the voice of Greed and chimeras. The animation and the fight scenes were good, too.

I really hope further episodes will be better. In two weeks we'll reach the manga-only material, so I hope the creators won't mess up with those.

I haven't watched the episode yet. But I will. But what is the name of the song that was playing in the commercial that showed Ling? Is that the new opening?

@FMAobsessed - It's Hologram by NICO Touches the Walls, the next OP of FMA:B. (BTW, I moved your post to the thread mentioned below ^^)

Anyone who'd like to discuss more about the commercial vid that run during this episode, please go here for more discussions on this. Gimpyhair posted nice screen caps of that commercial there. biggrin.gif

just finished watching the RAW and God im so dissopointed, for me this is the worst episode yet and is really begining to test my patience with this series. I hated that so much was missed out, and what the hell was Izumi doing at the end???! And she seems to be able to pwn Greed in this adaptation too which is just wrong ¬_¬ well I've ranted to so many people about this ep all ready and i cba to repeat myself XD but in conclusion very dissopointing

Just watched the raw, and this is definitely the most disappointing episode yet. Probably the only one since Episode 2 when I was blown away by how fast they were going and how much they skipped out on.

The way they rearranged Ed and Greed's fight and Izumi's was pointless. There's no way Bradley and Armstrong can come in now besides randomly popping up in Dublith. And how the hell did Izumi own Greed? The whole point of her not being able to beat Greed was so she wouldn't be invincible.

They also messed with Al a bit, but at least he beat up Dorochet? before he got kidnapped.

Nothing to complain about with Mustang's scene, or Scar's, except that Yoki's introduction was a little off, but nothing seriously bad.

They really should've spread this out over three episodes. :/

I'm counting on how amazing the pace and characterization must be in future episodes to make up for the skimmed parts in this one.

Oh no, why so fast? Yet again?
This new series isn't really what I expected, and if it doesn't stop cutting important/not-so-important but still my favourite scenes away at least when the manga-only material starts, I'm gonna be really, really disappointed. >__< ...even more so.

Disappointed must be the most used word in this thread, huh?

Oh, and Ed vs. Greed fight, that was lame, too. ):
I loved the manga version since it was pretty short but still dramatic, this one was just... dull.

Just finished watching the sub. I didn't think it was that bad of an episode at all. The fight scenes were done excellently. I also liked Ed's huge rant to Greed (and Greed's subsequent clapping). The only thing that I really wanted but didn't have was the thing with Greed consoling Al because he thought Al said that Ed was dead. Greed's character was established well though, he had a good voice and animation.

If you take out the fact that Yoki was previously not introduced correctly with the coal mine, I think they did a perfectly good job of establishing his character this way. He's a weak, pathetic, greedy sellout who dislikes the Elrics for some reason, and that's all we really need to know. Who knows, they might even reveal sometime later the actual circumstance behind it (not a whole episode though of course. They could probably summarize the entire coal mine story in 30 seconds with a few funny pictures and a little narration by Yoki).

I do wish scar's attacks would have more of those zesty alchemy lines like they did in the first series. Right now he sort of just touches them and their body parts blow up randomly.

From the preview it is obvious that Armstrong and Bradley are going to be in Dublith, so instead of complaining about the lack of context/reasons right now, I'm going to postpone judgment until seeing the next episode where their presence in Dublith will be explained, somehow. But either way they missed a classic "melon" opportunity...

My biggest complaint is the soundtrack - in this ep we heard so much of the same old themes thus far and none of it really impresses me *at all*. The fighting track is good I think, but everything else is getting boring hearing the same stuff every single episode.

To rectify, next week we better get something along the lines of Armstrong and the Fuhrer being at South HQ. Armstrong and King comment on it being State Alchemist exam season and worrying over whether Ed remembers. Armstrong brings up his power of tracking brought down through generations and boom the two are in Dublith at the Curtis' store front.

Disappointed. Like in the last few episodes, they skipped lots of good parts from the Manga. The fighting scenes were great, but they were also very short. Also, i think that the part when Ed gets angry is pretty much ridicolous.
