Overall, I'm pretty impressed with how well they compressed the two chapters into one episode, especially since the storylines are so different. It would have been cool to see Hughes tell Ed the message from Mustang, but so far, the director's doing an okay job of taking the essential parts and panning them out.
I get the feeling that they're spending more of the budget on the backgrounds instead of the characters. There were a ton of inconsistencies with Ed, and they used the same bit of Pinako smoking for about five different scenes, but the backgrounds give off a sense of...I don't know, the diversity in the FMA world. Like with Liore, and now Risembool. There are all of those little details like the chickens.
I'm counting on a ) an extensive flashback complete with burning house and Al carrying Ed over to the Rockbells for help when they meet Izumi, and b ) pacing to get more contemplative when Hughes dies. This is the director of Kurau, man, I'm expecting awesome things later on.
Nothing will ever top Michiru Oshima's score. :/ The new score's nice enough, but not nearly as good.
I like the warmer approach that this episode took. The first anime's good, but it made FMA a bit heavier than it really needed to be.

You want another "Nina-esque" episode?? lol--not me! Don't get me wrong, I like eps like that, but I prefer them spaced out. Otherwise it is just like the short jokes, or the way Ed is sharing his story with every curious person he meets. It takes all the impact and resonance out of it.
Oh heck no, I don't want a Nina-esque episode all the time. That would get really old, really fast. I only meant that the "calm" times before the next big plot event shouldn't be neglected by the animators, etc. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with this episode; it was cute, it was sweet, the pacing was fine, and it set up later plotlines like it should. There isn't much else to say.
I'm looking forward to Sciezka's appearance. She's almost exactly like me. xD;

Is it just me or did Winry look way too thin. She didn't look as skinny in the first series.
I thought that too but I wasn't too sure.
Yes!! I was like.. "Wait a minute.. she wasn't that skinny before!!!"
But I'm glad that we finally get to see Winry!! I liked this episode but the part where you transition to the other half of the episode with the guy yelling "FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST!!" Really pisses my off. I want to find whoever does the voice for that and slap them.

Haha, the "Fullmetal Alchemist" guy shall go down in infamy. I don't like that part either though
But I liked this episode a lot, it was nice to have a slower pace even though they still crammed a lot of information into this episode. I really liked the music in this ep as well. The promo for next week made me excited! Yay for Denny and Maria

I think it's a bit harsh that we're all blaming this poor guy who's just done some voice work.
We should be blaming whoever came up with the idea. And all the people that OK'd it.
Well, that dude does sound like a native English speaker, though. Japanese people (unless they speak English at a very young age) likely don't have perfect pronunciations like that.

I can't believe you guys are still complaining about this guy! Who cares! He says 4 words per episode, and it isn't even canon! Doesn't bother me one bit - I'm more concerned with the actual episode than the 2 second outro/intro to commercials.
