OH HAI EVERYONE, I FORGOT ABOUT THIS THREAD.
I came back here to look for streaming videos of the new Brotherhood series (since Funi's stream was down. FFffffuuu...) and found new messages in my inbox that reminded me that this thread existed.

Elaborating a bit on Claudius's past comments regarding the anime, I do find it common on these forums in particular for people to forget that the FMA anime and the FMA manga DO TOUCH ON THE SAME BASIC THEMES (family, vengence...) as divergent as the two may be. I think the reason for this was that most of us watched the anime so long ago. I first saw it back in 04-05 and haven't re-watched it since late '05... or maybe early '06. Hence, we forget the details of the anime. This board is apparently a very manga-centric audience. I am also guilty of being so wrapped up in following the events of the manga that I forget the anime from time to time. I need to re-watch it. Just ordered the season 1 box off of the Funi website the other night.

I remember some early translations of Riza's name being "Liza" or "Lisa." Happens a lot with translation though. Wouldn't have been the first anime to have a mis-translated name.

@Black Hayate-- I LOLd at your comment. I posted that pic in my profile next to my icon TO SCARE PEOPLE. (So far, it's worked.) It's just a pic of me in a costume. I have issues... I posted more cosplay pics on this thread ages ago, but I think the links are broken by now.

You need more to scare me =D.
An insect or a doctor.

I dunno, the name thing confuses me. And there is no name "Riza" in any name forums wich tell what names mean.

Anyone know why there are not much ROYAI FanBOYS? or guys? Why I see only girls? Not that it disturbs me, no, but still interesting.

I'm a guy and I'm a fanboy of the pairing (there's mostly girls in my family, so yeah safe to say that I grew up with a lot of their influences... sound familiar wink.gif ).

I can be shallow and base my reasons for liking Riza because she's hot, but in reality, she fits a lot of strong female characters that I'm quite fond of (Agent Scully from the X-Files is one of my all-time faves)...and she's hot. tongue.gif

But first and foremost, I was a Mustang fanboy since the beginning because he reminded me of myself way too much (save for the whole Ishbal war trauma, killing innocent people, being in the military, and of course I can't control fire) and was a bit easier to relate to than Ed or Al.

To be honest, you could see that there was always some underlying tension between Roy and Riza (particularly in the manga) and after seeing so many movies, tv shows, anime, etc. it was pretty easy for my mind to put 2 and 2 together.

...in short, I'm a romantic at heart. tongue.gif

Liz! You're alive! Ah, how I've missed your sparkling wit and siggy pic. wink.gif

I agree with you on forgetting about the anime. I don't try to--it just... happens. And for some reason, the manga just hit me way more intensely, plain and simple.

Kale--Glad to see there's more and more Royai fanboys out there. I don't doubt their existance or anything (I've read Royai fics written by guys), but the girls, myself included, are VERY vocal about it. You guys, not so much. (Not that it's a bad thing--I'm just saying...) My brother isn't WAY into Royai, but he likes it more than most other pairings.

Heh, what's even funnier is that lookwise, I have a mop of dark brown/black hair and have Asian features...but my eyes are the same color as Riza's (my eyes are technically brown but they're much lighter than brown). laugh.gif

Sorry for offtopic.
My eyes are the same color as Rizas. Exactly the same. I hated my eyes. I mean, is brown a color? Blue eyes are beautiful or grey. But not brown, that's what i thought. Since Riza I really love my eyes >D

Apologies for offtopic:
Cool! I always thought it was weird how everyone kept telling me how my eyes are interesting, but I never really thought much about them since I assumed they were a normal shade of brown and I hate looking in the mirror. But, it's nice to know that I'm not alone for having a weird eye color.

Back on topic:
I think that my favorite aspect of the whole Royai relationship is that they remind me of Mulder & Scully (the whole professional relationship thing but with certain moments that are a bit more intimate than others). Always loved the character interactions between them on the X-Files and Roy & Riza seem to have their moments like that.

Off-topic:
Kale, will you marry me?
Just kidding x]
My eyes are this weird grey-green color, I hate them.

Something on topic, something on topic...Yesterday my mom asked me 'what is this royai thing?' I was ranting more than hour. I feel sorry for her, but hey, now she finds royai romantic! Though she still thinks m&a is childish.

Wow, I envy you. Your mother knows something about Royai. My parents don't know what a manga is.

I'm happy I made someone smile/laugh biggrin.gif

I can tell, I'm kind of lucky here, since my dad is Death Note fanboy x]
Oh, wll, too off-topis, I should just stfu. Go study physics (and maybe read some fanfiction)! ^^

I just wonder, do you believe that Roy&Riza are these ones hard-working who will reach their some kind of happy ending? You know, according to this interview with Arakawa.

And thanks for the laugh (it's currently aiding in my procrastination on my work) biggrin.gif

As for Roy & Riza, I would hope so as if anything, the war definitely left a mark on their lives & souls and they've been working so hard to redeem themselves ever since. Sure the current fight against Father & the rest of the Homonculi is pretty much to save the world from evil, but at the same time, I think that the main motives of Roy & Riza could still be traced back to prevent another person from having to be used as a weapon in a needless war.
