There is, I think, a Snap! of Selim's neck. The kid is dead. Mustang took the body out so Selim could be given a decent burial instead of being burned with the rest of the trash...
This was one of the episodes that Cartoon Network gave a 'viewer discretion is advised', for this scene.

Ooh, really? I'll have to go back and rewatch that then. *morbid*

Back on topic, I also have never really been a Royai shipper, but this episode may have converted me slightly. tongue.gif Despite having read the manga, something about seeing the hug animated clicked for me. I "aawed". happy.gif

I liked this episode.

While quality may be not top-notch yet, it had some really good scenes.

I especially liked the tender moments between Roy and Riza and Alphonse at the Gate - the music was great.

Due to the cancellation of the end of FMA, Kasumisty must think of new signature.

It may take a while.

Man, this episode was just like a series of Crowning Moments of Awesome exploding in your face. Not to mention the Tear Jerkers. (Damn you Tv tropes for being so fun to procrastinate on.)

Pride's entrance was freaking awesome. I don't care if he's the spawn of Satan, he and Wrath make the weirdest and most amazing duo ever. I'm slightly disappointed there wasn't some Battle Royale music playing during his slow-mo arrival, but whatever.

Roy's scream was probably the best bit of acting the VA's ever given the character.

And my favorite scene's Al. Just...Al. Al is everybody's Jesus. He never stops giving and sacrificing. Seriously, when does he ever get a break?

For people criticizing the Scar Vs. Wrath stare-off, you probably haven't seen many spaghetti westerns. In those, it's common for rivals to have a long closeup of their emotions before the showdown starts, usually set to epic music. I thought it was very well done and I was really happy to see this technique used here, especially for this battle. They used it a bit in the Envy vs. Mustang fight before Envy was reduced to his true form, and I liked it there too.

Claudius - Not to go off topic, but I never thought Selim died in Anime1. Didn't he just get semi-strangled/beat up? wink.gif They never really confirmed his life or death either way, but the fact that Mustang carried him out of the mansion made it seem to me like Selim was just unconscious.

For a while, I assumed Selim survived, because I didn't think Mustang would waste what little strength he had carrying a dead body out of a flaming house.

A person can survive having their neck broken, too.

But given the atmosphere of that scene, yeah, the more I watch it, the more I believe he died.

Back to this episode, though, watching it again, it's a lot better than when I watched it streaming live. That scene with Al and his body was so perfect and moving.

- Question about Al's body in Episode 59, Warning! Spoilers for epiosde 59! -

So I just got done watching FMA:B for the first time and I had a question about Al recovering his body that I can't seem to find an answer to. When they first start talking about the five sacrifices for the Promised Day, I just assumed that the five sacrifices were all people who had opened the door. However, after Al talks with his body and realizes he can't take it back and fight and leaves, his body says something about how his leaving without his body may bring about despair and ruin. Then, in the next episode they start emphasizing that all of the sacrifices had lost something when they met with Truth. So my question is, had Al taken his body back initially, would he have still been able to be a sacrifice - since it now seems that the qualifications to be a sacrifice are having opened the door and lost something to Truth - having gotten his body back? And would Father have been able to go through with his plan with Al back in his own body?

Welcome to the board, kateyliz12!! biggrin.gif

There are people here with much better thoughts and explanations on things like this; especially since I'm terrible for forgetting some details! I really hope that someone can help you with your question!

Also, since this thread is a question relating to episode 59, this thread can be merged with the Episode 59: "Lost Light" discussion thread shortly. happy.gif But in the mean time, if anyone can help answer kateyliz12's question, you can do so here! biggrin.gif

ETA: Thread merged 29/8/11

Al didn't take his body back due to he wanted to help out and which he did. If he did take his body, Father's plans to me would be ruined and couldn't make the sacrifices due to Al. His plans seems like it would be ruined overall if Al took his body back from the Truth. The sacrifices were the people who meet the truth and lost something such as Ed(his arm and leg), Al(his body), Mustang(his vision), Teacher(her insides) and Ed's/Al's father had the philosopher stone with him. I think you would be correct.

The "going back will bring despair and ruin" is read into too much. It simply means that Alphonse returning would complete Father's 5 sacrifices for his Ultimate Evil Plan, as Father had said in the previous episode "We are waiting on Alphonse, blah blah because we don't have 5 sacrifices without him."

Also, qualification for a sacrifice has nothing to do with having lost something. It's more about having opened the Gate and experiencing it than the toll.

Man, of course Al is a sacrifice, because he lost something (in his case, his body)
