QUOTE(RascalKing @ Dec 21 2004, 02:04 AM)
ok, i when i first started this thread like a month ago, i meant that the ENGLISH dub was ruined, not the anime itself. And i stick to it, this is my personal opinion, and i believe its valid. And after hearing Nina's voice which sounded like a complete joke, i stick by my word even more.
She sounded like a child... a little girl in fact... OH DEAR GOD! WE CAN'T HAVE NINA SOUNDING LIKE A LITTLE GI- oh wait...
Anyway, back to being serious, the only thing you can complain about was that the voice itself, in general, not having anything to do with dub vs. sub, was annoying, and in my opinion I thought it was cute, I still got just as annoyed and sad when Tucker chimera'd her (yep, new word) as I was with the sub. This is exactly what arche was talking about, being too shallow.
If Scar went from being as he was in the sub to having a happy, joyful, comedic voice, I'd agree with you about the dub voices ruinging the series, but no, every voice is fitting their appropriate characters. Hughes sounds good, Roy sounds alright and I'll prolly get used to it, Al and Ed sound just fine. Tucker sounded alright if you think of FMA and no other anime. And Scar sounds pretty damn good, too
(for the people who are extremely sensitive to spoilers, it's not much of one, though)

though I'll need to hear it when he gets more involved, I can't base opinions off of two or so lines
So enough of the arguing and being pissed about the voices being a tiny bit off. It's one thing if the voices are so far off that the character changes completely because of it (with Ed's voice, I still can see his character as the same as in the subs, same with Tucker and Al and so on), but with minor voice changes that don't alter their characters at all and no change to the script, I don't get why people get so angry at these quality dubs except for meaningless shallowness and inability to adapt at all.

Just to be different then everyone else, I will say this (though I do believe it). I HATE SUBS. Why? Because I don't understand a flippin word they're saying. Think about it. To me it's like they're shouting gibberish at eachother, who wants to listen to that? Don't get me wrong, I understand that people like it better and I dont blame you. You can watch whatever the hell you want but just because the dub is different doesnt always make it bad, especially when it's all people like me have.
Put simply, I love the dub. From what I hear only the "hardcore" FMA fans seem to have a problem with it. The voice actors are doing a good job and you realize the VA's were shown to the original makers and they approved them, so they cant be all that bad.

@Dreakon: Exactly. I know a lot of people who watch foreign films and would rather have dub'd voices. I like dub'd voices sometimes too. Usually when I hear the real voices, I convert, but for the first time through or depending on what it is, that's fine. The whole point is whether or not the message is getting through. The English voice actors are not hacks. They are doing their best with what they have.
If all you did was watch the dub'd version, then watch it. You will be enlightened and enjoy the series. If you watched the sub version and can't stand the voices in the dub version, then don't watch the dub anymore. It's that simple.
It's true that if the character voices were grossly off, it would be a problem, but it doesn't appear that way. Regardless of whether you like the intonation of one voice over another, the emotion is going to be the same. I swear, people just like to complain about anything....Watch the series however you will enjoy it the most! All I care is that you watch it as it is amazing!

<Edited subtitle from "Have anyone seen it?" to "Your Opinion?" Also I'm temporarily closing this thread till I can figure out which thread should merge to which among so many English voice vs Japanese voice threads we have, and while I'm at it I do not want anyone adding more posts to this thread. 02/19/07 ~Tombow> <Opening the thread and merging this "English Version, Your opinion?" thread with 6 pages of posts to "Complaint About English Version, FUNIMATION has ruined FMA anime series!!" thread. Checked the continuities of the posts on both threads, and confirmed the continuities of the posts will survive the merge. 02/23/07 ~Tombow>

I have seen the English dub and it's not as bad as many say it is. I think FUNimation did a rather nice job on it. Sure, even I'd rather have the same voices and the japanese language for the characters, but that isn't possible. Al's voice actor seems a little amateur-ish, but seeing as he's only 12, I suppose it'll slide. Most get better at acting as the series gets farther. And as the show progresses, the quality can only get better.

Saw the trailer (which is avaliable on this website)...
Since I saw the whole thing in Japanese already, I don't like the dubs (personal preference, the Japanese language has so many levels and depths that the English language doesn't have, hence I prefer watching it in the former, but for people who don't understand Japanese, sub or dub are about the same in feel I guess), but wouldn't discourage people from watching them. Dubs are for those who've not heard the original....
