I'll toss in my apology, too: Sorry if I sounded anti-guy at any point. Most guys I know really are fine, upstanding gentlemen who do look for serious relationships. (The University I currently attend is gigantic, so I've seen the best and the worst of them side-by-side.) I think some girls are actually worse about that sort of thing, but the point is both genders have their share of bad and good. But mostly good, I'd like to think.

Very true.
I apologise if anyone got the wrong end of the stick with what I was saying, I sometimes have that effect on people... happy.gif I'm useless with words.

If I were to be offended by some of these posts, I'd have really thin skin. wink.gif

I know what you guys meant and although there are guys that fit the stereotype, many of us (of course I'm including myself) are not that way at all. So give a nice guy a chance wink.gif

Anyways, regarding the 'did they or they didn't', what I enjoy about having lack of information regarding their pasts is that it can be fun to make up your own theories. Do I think they were romantic back then? Perhaps, though probably more than a hug and kiss on the cheek - but there's clearly affection there. Do I think something might've happened in Ishval? Maybe, if only to try to forget everything for a little while. Do I think there's something going on now? I'd like to think that they'd like to spend some quiet times alone - but as for sleeping with one another...probably an extremely rare occurrence.

Regarding Roy growing up and developing his persona: it's just an act. Most of the girls he's with are going to be nine times out of ten one of his 'sisters' for information drops or maybe he just wants to catch up with them. I think that despite him not having a usual upbringing, he was taught well by Madame Christmas and the girls. Roy would definitely have first-hand knowledge on how most men act and treat a woman that wasn't their wife/girlfriend if he were simply hanging around the bar, and I'm sure that Madame Christmas and the girls would teach him what not to do and to not act like those men...but at the same time to act like them. To make sure he's not suspicious, he has to build an act that makes him act like the very men he's probably been told not to grow up to be, but he knows he has to in order to stay safe.

Has he actually dated women? Probably. Has he slept with them? Maybe, maybe not. Roy's a little too career-minded and goal-oriented that he probably lives by the phrase, "I'll sleep when I'm dead" in order to achieve his goal of being Fuhrer. So for now, he'll probably remain single until peace has been achieved...and then try out the dating thing afterwards.

They are sleeping or not, virgins or not, let Bones decides! I think I'll regret that decision But, with the latest episode, I give Bones 5 stars for the Royai effect they have done. Great job Bones! But we still need more overdose of Royai.

Roy at the beginning
Talking to myself. That's right. Elizabeth was unfortunately taken to another place wasn't she? It's because of that that I can talk leisurely like this with you.

Royai at the end:Moeru Gomi-Garbage Infatuation
Roy: I'll be like my teacher and use the gift he gave me to become a soldier. Someday I'm sure that I'll probably die on the roadside like a piece of trash. But even so, I think I'd be happy if I could protect the people of this country with my hands...

Riza thinking: Like trash? I want to try to see that.

Riza talking: I'll become a soldier too. Please put me by your side Mister Mustang.

Roy: *Startled/shocked* Really? Yeah...I don't mind, but...okay.

___________
This 4koma's so funny. Poor Roy in a pile of trash.

Thankyou for the translation Nagareboshi! Poor Roy... laugh.gif

The conversation for the last two pages have reminded me of something I've always been curious about, in fanfiction it seems norm to portray Roy as a selfish lazy womanizing idiot (Who is somehow still highly ranked in the military?) Yet when I read the manga I only really see a handful of humorous scenes where he displays any of these traits. Having not watched the first anime is this persona more prominent in there? Or is it just people flanderdizing his character? huh.gif

I'm pretty sure Roy as a lazy, womanizing idiot does stem primarily from anime1. Episode 13--the miniskirt army, and the whole "I love dogs!" speech. Episode 37--steals Havoc's date, doesn't do his paperwork... I'm sure there are lots of other little bits, too.

There was also probably a lot of joking and stuff like that going around, and people who aren't as "involved" as us crazies (admit it--we joined the dark side because they had cookies!) with FMA just seeing what was on the surface.

I try not to do that anymore, but seeing as when I got into FMA, I had only anime1 to go off of (I was introduced to the anime first, and the manga was up to only volume 4 in the US, anyway), I can understand it. Not saying I encourage it, though.

And I am very happy someone is standing up for guys. Being male on this thread can be scary...

laugh.gif Hahah aww. I'm in the same boat as Turdaewen... most of my friends are guys, so I've grown used to their behavior. Animation is a male-dominated field, so I'm always surrounded by them! And we're all geeks!

@brotchen: It's definitely demeaning of his character... he skimps out on paperwork maybe twice in the whole series, yet in lots of fanfiction Hawkeye is holding a gun to his head in order to make him do his work. In that case, both characters are portrayed wrongly.

Oh lord.. did any of that make sense? I'm so sick right now... my head is spinning!

That made perfect sense. I really hate how some fanfics have Riza pulling out her guns for everything. I also hate how Roy's portrayed as a womanizer who's only interested in one-night stands. It's really difficult to find fanfics with substance that accurately portray any of the FMA characters.

Speaking of fanfics, I hate ones where Riza is just dead-set against wearing dresses and skirts and absolutely hates them. I'm like "Uh, guys? You do realize that we've seen her wearing skirts outside of work, right?"

Kale, I agree with every word you said. XD

brotchen, that "Roy persona" you're talking about only comes off as a comic relief in the manga. In every serious occasion during the series, Roy's not like that. That only gets explored as a REAL trait of his in FMA 1.

What we DO get to see is that Roy and Riza like to tease eachother. A LOT! (can anyone say EdWin??) Riza LOVES to say Roy is useless and an idiot and Roy likes to bring up how Riza cares so much about him.

And Riza is actually SEEN as a very strict woman, who can shoot you if you mess around. But she never actually DID it. Quite the opposite, she usually imposes herself with smart remarks and, as Roy has said himself, "she's actually a very kind/sweet woman".
And about the skirts... it's absolutely ridiculous! EVERY scene in FMA that Riza is in civilian clothes, she's wearing either a dress or a skirt, both in the manga and in original artworks. Can't remember any 'official' portray of Riza in civilian clothes and wearing pants or any sort of 'unfeminine outfit' for what matters. (I mean, just look at my avatar, for example!) XD

Come to think of it, when have we seen her wearing pants outside of work?

It's the stupid "real women don't wear skirts" thing all over again, and it's really annoying. For some reason people get the idea that you can't have a strong female character in a skirt... and, of course, in this case, they're kind of missing the point of half the female characters in the series.

Regarding the guns: I want to see one with a Super Soaker. Because even if it were out of character, it'd be hilarious.

I can remember her wearing pants in FMA1, but that's because she was in disguise. And another one from a scan.

I think Riza being stern, strict, strong, and badass are misinterpreted as being manly, and so in fan fictions it's always unusual for Riza to wear dresses and skirts. I think Olivier in a dress is more surprising, though. laugh.gif

I like that Riza in civilian dress is quite feminine (why hello there skirt that accentuates her legs and thighs wink.gif) and it suits her quite well. She's very well put-together and dresses her age.

But I also love the fact that when she's ready to get down to business, she still maintains a bit of the femininity as well (the hairclip and earrings smile.gif).

I find it funny for Roy in his civvies is that he's quite formal, considering he gives off more of a relaxed air about him. The only time you'll ever see him in something other than his suit is usually in print media or in the games. laugh.gif
