The closest "real life" total eclipse

The closest total solar eclipse in real life, assuming Amestris is in Europe, would be in August of 1914:

Maximum was near the center of Belarus, and it went right over Minsk:

Given that current estimates put Jesus' birth around 4 B.C., a slightly more accurate year count would have the eclipse dated in 1915 (or 1916), whichever is the year for the promised day.

No other total eclipse comes close; they are too far away or too early/late, and sometimes in the winter.
