In concurrent releases with the Manga, or comic book version of this story, there is also an anime tv series. Currently this show is slated for 51 episodes.
Furthermore, as of May 2004 the series has been aquired by the U.S. company FUNimation. They have purchased the exclusive licensing rights to the series. The anime T.V. series is slated to air on Cartoon Network, specifically the Adult Swim portion of their programming. It will debut in October of 2004.

As it stands, Full Metal Alchemist DVD's are available for Region 2 only (not the United States) and will not work in most commercial dvd players! But here is some information on the DVD's For you! The American Region 1 DVDs will be published by FUNimation, and will feature uncut, unedited versions as well as dubbed versions of the anime. All the video and audio remain intact. It has been confirmed that the cover will be reversable with one side having an american version and the other the japanese ones that you see below. The first DVD is set to be released on Feburary 8th, 2005.

This popular series debuted their first DVD release with a bang! It included a limited, special extra bonus DVD. It included theatrical trailers, art and various drawings from Hiro Arakawa, as well as a special 4-panel cartoon page that was never before seen! It also came with a 30-second comedy clip, entitled: Reverse Side Steel Alchemist. To top it all off, it also came with a great poster.
