Ed has woken up and finds himself in the hospital greeted by Ross and Bloch. Immediately, he searches for Al and is shocked when he sees Al without arms or legs.
Shrugging off his injuries like they were nothing, Ed is slapped by Ross. She exclaims that he almost died and yet all he is concerned about is discovering the "truth". She tells him not to forget that he is still a child, and he should have more faith in adults.
Wanting to get back on his feet quickly, Ed calls Winry about his arm, and she agrees to come to Central City to fix it right away.
Back at the lab, Hughes leads the investigation to find out what happened at the lab last night.
The next morning, Hughes visits Ed at the hospital to inform him that everything that happened that night is to be blamed on Scar. Not satisfied with the military's conclusion, Hughes asks Ed directly for information regarding the events of that night.
Ed mentions that the Homunculus were trying to make him create the Philosopher's Stone using live prisoners. He also gives information regarding the individuals he faced as well as the Tattoo of Ouroboros and the transmutation circle for the Philosopher's Stone. Another piece of information he tells Hughes is that incomplete forms of the Stone were used by the military during the Eastern Rebellion.
Winry finally arrives and is taken to the hospital by Armstrong. There, she appologizes for having not fixed Ed's arm properly.
Back at his office, Hughes receives a call from Mustang, but Hughes avoids telling Mustang about the things that have happened recently.
In the hospital, Al seems to be sulking in the corner, no doubt pondering the things said to him by Barry and Tucker. Despite having been childhood friends, Winry is still left in the dark regarding the activities of Ed and Al.
The next day, Winry attends Elysia's birthday party. There, she is told by Hughes that she may be the only one that Ed and Al can show their weaker side to. And the only reason they do not tell her anything is to keep her safe. Then, Glacier, Hughes's wife, hands Winry a cake to bring to Ed, for it is his birthday also.
Handing Ed the cake, Ed and Winry begin to reminsce upon old times, but Al does not seem to remember. The words of Barry and Tucker still echo within him, and he asks to stay outside until Ed's repairs are done.
While doing repairs, Winry is startled that Ed had the chance to return Al to normal at the cost of other human lives. On the rooftop, Al begins to doubt whether or not he really was human before. With repairs done, Ed and Winry head to the rooftop.
There, Ed fixes Al, but Al accuses Ed of affixing memories to Al for they are only data. Brining up the question Ed never asked in Rizenbul, Al asks what it was. Unable to answer, Al runs off to be alone with himself.
